I used to rent cars through Hertz.com.au using the NRMA rates - these were generally pretty cheap (cheaper than my corporate rate), and they reduced the excess to $1650 including GST (which I have covered through a rental car excess insurance policy).

However, the way I had to book it was first click on the "show your card and save" link in the offers section of the reservations page, then click on NRMA member" and it would insert "AAA NRMA MEMBER" in the CDP area of the reservation page (but would never give me a CDP number), and then I'd get the discounts.

I've just tried to do this, and the "show your card and save" link just takes you to the special offers page, with no specific area (even under "auto club member offers") where you can click through with NRMA membership and get the CDP entered.

Does anyone have any of the Auto Club CDP numbers (especially NRMA), or another way of getting my NRMA membership applied? It would be very helpful to me as I need to book a pile of car hire for February, March and April soon!

Try 74155

Description is:

CDP: AAA NRMA MEMBERS

Some others:
RACV 74269
RACQ 100422
RAA 230631
RAC 191334
AANT 191335
RACT 191336

Of course before using a CDP, you should verify that you're eligible to use it (eg check with Hertz, or your AAA Club). Can cause some insurance 'issues' if you're not using the correct one!

NRMA purchased Thrifty in Australia and NZ about 12 - 18 months ago and ceased their preferred relationship with Hertz. All other state auto clubs stayed with Hertz.
It may have just taken this long for Hertz to ditch the code.

Thrifty gives quite a large discount to NRMA members, even more when they book online. As well as QF freq flyer points.

Cheers

I just booked a car via the RACV site for CNS in late Jan with Hertz...

No number required BUT you are meant to show your membership Card on ckeck in.

The rate gained this way for my booking was cheaper than the rates shown by a number of other searches using various sites and booking engines, inluding corporate rates (for one of Australia's larger companies that my wife works for that is often very cheap) , for any of the Hire Companies that have airport pick-up.

Thank you - this worked perfectly!

Naturally - I don't use CDPs to which I wouldn't be eligible. Hence my need for the NRMA one and not the other states' Automobile Associations.

Out of interest I tried the RACV Code..and it was more expensive than what I gained via RACV direct.

However that is probably as the RACV has tiered (based on years of membership) discoubnts and I get more than the base discount.

Sorry to hijack the Hertz thread but I would be interested to know how this works. I am looking at hiring an economy car in Melbourne in March for 6 days and have been researching the Thrifty website.

  • No CDP the quote is $281.07 (with a daily rate of $33.95)
  • Provide NRMA membership and the quote is $250.53 (with a daily rate of $33.95 and a discount of $30.95)
  • Provide QFF number and the quote is $249.61 (with a daily rate of $29.50)
It would be appear that I get a better discount with the Qantas CDP. Still not as cheap as Budget when taking the GPS into consideration....
