Hi All,
Australia's number 1 frequent flyer according to ACA is Mel Gottlieb. Mel is apparently Qantas's number 1 frequent flyer with approximately 500hrs in the air per year.
Mel claims he had about 6million points at one stage.
Mel Gottlieb’s Frequent Flyer tips:
BOOK AHEAD OR AT THE LAST MINUTE Mel says book a few months ahead OR at the last minute. This should guarantee you a chance at one of those prized seats.
ALLOCATE MORE POINTS FOR INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS Allocate your points to international flights — it's not worth spending points on competitive domestic flights.
USE YOUR CARD WISELY Be smart and always credit your points at the hotels and shops linked to your card.
BE LOYAL Mel says the number one tip - is 'be loyal'. “Loyalty pays these days, most people take the most convenient flight, but I'll actually spend sometimes a couple of hours at an airport waiting for a Qantas flight because I'm loyal to them.”
Christopher Zinn from Choice says we need to be realistic about how we use our points.
“Sports people who fly a lot internationally, business people who fly a lot internationally they rack up these things at a rate of knots,” Mr Zinn says.
“I'm sure a lot of people would prefer the discount because they're realising it's like a bucket full of holes it just doesn't hold any water, it runs out and it's not much use to you — you certainly need a little magic to insure you're going to get your flight.”
But if we don't have magic, we need an insider tip:
Christopher Zinn’s tips:
BOOK ON THE PHONE
“Going on the phone can actually get you access to frequent flyer seats that you can't find online.
