So body scaners are definatly on the way.
More domestic sniffer dogs.
Government trying to balance time delays at check in with new enhancements:rolleyes:
Regionals to be bought into line (large aircraft services)
Cargo gets the once over.
Bottle screening xrays for liquids.

Airport security to get $200m boost

These enhancements had better not include an Int style carry on liquids restriction on Dom flights...

I saw these “enhancements” as things the US requires to fly into their airspace, rather than any breakthrough in security, so unless the US invades somewhere in Australia, I think (hope) DOM wont change.

Love the avatar, TTE is awesome!

This is great news! I am all for any additional measures that the government can spare to make travel safer.

On another note, do body scanners detect internally concealed drugs? I read today that a pregnant lady was busted with an internal booty of drugs, after going through a body scanner. I didn't realise they were that sophisticated!!

My sister was wondering the same thing. And if the machine blurs out private parts, what happens if you’re smuggling things near (or in) your private parts? Will it detect them? :p

I've wondered the same. I doubt it'll detect 'cavity' hidden objects.

Of course, the possibility for humour exists by interesting keyrings or other items in the pocket too (nothing illegal or suspect - nothing that'll get you pulled up) but something to get a laugh :)

On one of the border security shows the other night I saw they had a machine that they used to see if someone was smuggling something inside them. They stood on the machine and it moved them through an open doorway-like structure. Perhaps it was just an x-ray machine though and is clearly a little more dangerous to be using on every passenger.
