Emirates will begin a three times weekly A380 service on its Dubai-
Sydney-Auckland route from Monday. The carrier will also launch a
second daily service into Brisbane from Dubai on Monday with
Melbourne receiving it's third daily service on Tuesday

Don't know what others think but I would have expected a bit of fanfare and publicity about
such an announcement rather than burying it on the front page of an industry newsletter.?

Eh, the A380 @ SYD is a routine occurrence now. Nothing to see here, folks...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

this news is also in the avaition section of today's Oz. So a bit more promotion than a trade mag. I'll leave you to find a link - on iPhone ATM

Thanks,I'm not REALLY bothered,I was just a bit surprised that they left
it so late before announcing it,but as NYCguy says it's probably not that big a deal anymore.

Then again, how many VLA* gates are there at SYD?

Will the QF, SQ & EK Guppies be all there at once?

Is SYD to be come the Guppie capital of the world for the next year or so?

This has been out there for a little while, I certainly heard about it a few weeks ago (can't remember where - maybe it was on the EK website).

Probably the most significant piece of this news is that its give people a relatively cheap (and quick) option to fly the A380 to AKL from SYD.

So what are the A380 destinations now?

SYD, SIN, DXB, JFK, LHR, LAX, AKL, MEL, NRT (and the odd NAN flight ;))

And ICN soon - just announced by EK. I wouldn't have thought there would be enough travel between ICN and DXB, but apparently a tourism campaign by the South Korean govt is going to drive more travel...

The Oz aviation reporting did make the point that Australia will be the first country to have 3 airlines operating A380s (iirc). They tried to make some link between this premium competition and the new QF customer service training facility. Not very successfully.

Expect some commercial TV coverage for the arrival. The EK PR and Events team in Sydney is in full swing - you'll probably hear about it all next week. Giveaways, radio spots and "fluff" news spots after the weather portion of the news. I'm sure there is also some major travel industry "do" next week where they roll out the usual cardboard cutouts. Emirates never let a chance go by to milk any opportunity. You'll see the usual in-flight matrons next week paraded around town.
