Hi everyone,

First time poster but have read a few threads on here before! Let me know if I should post this elsewhere.

Recently booked honeymoon and decided to stop over in Dubai for a couple of days on the way home. We have booked rewards flight flying from Athens to Amman with Royal Jordanian with a 2 hour stop over before our flight with Emirates to Dubai.

We will need to obviously collect our bags then make our way to emirates to check in for the flight to Dubai, what are peoples experience with flying into Amman and transferring to a different flight? Also will we need a visa on arrival because we will need to access the departures terminal?

Any advice would be great! :)

Is it all on the same PNR? I’d expect luggage to be booked through to final destination. We are doing similar - ADL-DXB on EK then RJ to Amman then Tel Aviv. And won’t see bags until TA.

Your 2 hours stopover won’t see you collecting bags, immigration and making it to the next flight if there’s the slightest delay.

Yes it is all on the same PNR so in that case I'm hoping it will be booked through to Dubai.

My thoughts exactly on the 2 hour stop over!! :D

I’m trying to do some more research for our peace of mind! Generally the system won’t let you book something that isn’t possible to achieve. Having the same PNR is great protection.

So yesterday I tweeted Emirates help @EmiratesSupport

I gave them a quick description and they then sent me a private link to plug in my exact details etc

And this was their complete response to those details (private message)

“Hi xx_

Thanks for sharing your details.
You'll need to check with our team at Adelaide airport.
Terminal 1 is attached to Terminal 3.
If Royal Jordanian has the flight open for check-in, we can transfer the bags.

Otherwise, on arrival at Terminal 3 you can approach transfer desk 'E' located in Terminal 1 where Dnata transfer desks are located.
If your bags are only checked-in until Dubai, then Dnata will assist with transferring the bags to the onward flight.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Regards,
Heena, Emirates Social Media Team”

As we have over 8 hours we might just exit and collect bags and then rebook into RJ.

If you have 8 hours and are considering leaving the airport, I wouldn't bother going into Amman, however Madaba is about 1/2 hour away by taxi and you could easily spend time there, lot's of mosaics and the like to see, it was much smaller than Amman and very walkable. I'm guessing you would have to get a visa, not sure if they are available on arrival.

It’s 8 hours in Dubai and we aren’t interested in leaving the airport as we’ve been to Dubai a few times. We also have 6 hours in Amman before flight to Tel Aviv but will go to the Lounge and grab a shower if we can. We will be returning to Amman after the cruise for a couple of days.

I am waiting on an email back from Emirates, however on my Royal Jordanian booking info it states as a 'stopover' and booking is all on the one ticket so I imagine our bags will transit across even though our next flight is on Emirates, have also contacted RJ to try and confirm :)

I think I have seen your TR about Dubai, looks fantastic! Just booked to stay at the Shangri-La, my wife is an architect so you can imagine her excitement!

She will take thousands of photos. The architecture is stunning! Of course extremely modern. Shiny. Tall!

The link to the Dubai report is in my signature.

Sorry as usual I misread, Madaba is closer to the airport than Amman and imo much more interesting! There are several good hotels there as well.

So as my trip gets closer I read your TR on Dubai again to see if I missed anything to add to my current to do list :D

Also haven't had much luck in getting confirmation about our bags getting transferred straight to Dubai with flight stopping over in Amman but I will try again this week! Might even try Qantas to see if they can shed some light on this as from memory the booking agent stated 'won't have to worry about bags in Amman' but was a quick passing comment to herself if anything

Had confirmed by Royal Jordanian this morning that our bags will be checked through to Dubai
