I can't believe I've never done this.. I've always been booked through on the same ticket, or have had a shopping stopover in LA before going on to our next city.

We arrive at TBIT via SQ, and are "connecting" (with a 4 hour buffer) to a UA flight to DEN. These are separate tickets, each booked directly with the respective carrier.

Do we have to drag our bags to T7/8 or is there a transiting baggage check after Customs (even if we aren't checked in for that flight).

I understand we have to get to the terminal and go through TSA, but prefer to do so without taking our bags for the walk.

Any advice appreciated.

I don't know if you can check new bags at the checked bag transfer point, but when I was in this situation, I walked down to UA with my bags; one wheeler bag and one wheeler carry on, not too bad. There is also the terminal shuttle loop bus of course.

Yeah. I was hoping to check the bags, go through TSA at the earliest point, and do a bit of a lounge crawl utilising the tunnels.

Take the right hand turn up the ramp after customs, at the top look for united check/recheck.

You may be able to simply drop the bags there. If not then that take the A bus (stop is to the left as you exit TBIT on the arrivals level) around to UA to check them there.

Good luck, 4 hours is a risky connection for separate tickets in my experience.
