Calling all aviation enthusiasts! Hitch a ride on one of Qantas’ Queen of the Skies, to Avalon for an exclusive day trip to the Australian International Air Show on 2 March, 2019 for Qantas’ third drought fundraising flight

Not only will you be able to check out a range of aircraft on display from vintage warbirds to military fighter jets, it is also one of the last opportunities to fly on our soon-to-be retired 747 (VH OEB) and a rare opportunity for a domestic jumbo flight. Throw in daredevil aerobatic shows (not on the Qantas 747) and it’s the ultimate av-geek day out.

Get in quick, only 150 seats are available for sale.

All proceeds will go directly to the Qantas Drought Relief program.

Qantas Drought Relief | Qantas

For $747, your all-inclusive trip includes:

  • Return flights on 2 March 2019 between Sydney and Avalon on board Qantas 747 – VH-OEB
  • Low level fly by of the runway on approach to Avalon
  • Single day entry to the 2019 Australian International Air Show
  • Sparkling wine breakfast in the Sydney Domestic Business Lounge on departure including live entertainment
  • Inflight auctions
  • Morning tea inflight refreshments
  • Private lunch at the Air Show with some special aviation guests
  • Gift bag and souvenir lanyard
  • Dinner and drinks (including alcoholic beverages) on return flight

Also, you earn 20 SCs each way for the flight.

Bloody tempting ... but how to I break it to Mrs QF WP?? Hmmm, double yolker would probably work on this as well. 80 SC's for $747..:confused:

Bring her along? :) I'm probably going as I have booked but chose the Bpay payment option so have till 2400 tonight to make a final decision :)

No can do, renovating at present and that rules me out...it seemed like a good idea at the time ...

Very tempting... spent a lot of time on 747's as a child, but not necessarily Qantas ones. I think I should hold onto my cash. I'll always have the final 767 flight and first LRE flight as special memories.

What are they doing with the other 300 seats?

I imagine there will be a media contingent as well as numerous invited guests which would flesh out the numbers.

Booked today and can’t wait!! Perfect avgeeks day out!!

PS although the booking engine indicates it’s an upgradeable fate type, when I went to put in an upgrade request it has a message that no higher travel class available :( maybe J will be full of invited guests or they will auction off the J seats to raise more money...

It’s one of those ‘wouldn’t it be awesome but no’ moments isn’t it. They do a fly over?

SYD to AVV (but not via BNE) so won't see any flyover...oh well :( time to live vicariously through those fortunate enough to get onboard or be at the Airshow

But I think this plane is doing a low fly over at Avalon.

After AF296, wasn't it a recommendation that passengers not be aboard aircraft doing such low-level flyovers?

Sorry, I took it that your comment meant you thought they were doing a low fly over of BNE. In the OP, it says:

Low level fly by of the runway on approach to Avalon

Neither of us will be there...

Back to an earlier comment I made about needing a "so jealous" button
But to make matters worse I'll be there for work for the trade days - so couldn't get to Sydney, just to fly back to Avalon, back to Sydney and then back to Avalon etc, etc.... I will wave at you all though - no doubt you'll be surrounded by Qantas groupies and pap's :)

I hovered for some time, went away, hovered again. In the end ‘Computer says No’!

As sad as I will be to miss this trip, we’ve already had a lot of happy hours on this old bird.

Hello - purchased a ticket for this flight, however sadly am now unable to travel due to work travel. The ticket conditions allow name changes for a $99 fee. The ticket cost me $754.58 (inc credit card fee). If anyone is interested to purchase the ticket from me for $754.58 plus $99 Total $853.58, please contact me. I propose to arrange the money transfer through paypal (for the seller / buyer protection). Happy to exchange email / mobile details etc.

Further details of the day are as per the below:

Get set to cosy up to your favourite fighter jet, vintage warbird or attack helicopter at an air show that is consistently ranked one of the top three in the world.

We’re 10 days until take-off, so here’s a rundown of the day’s activities.

Your flight details

QF1360 Depart Sydney at 7:15am*

Arrives Avalon at 9:00am

QF1361 Departs Avalon at 6:20pm

The event

The Australian International Air Show is on a huge open green-field site at Avalon Airport with over 600 aircraft on display. It is noisy, exciting and there may well be another 100,000+ people on-site Saturday. Ear plugs will be provided.

Dress code

Given the atmosphere of the event, comfortable/safe footwear is mandatory; absolutely no thongs, high heels, or open-toed footwear are permitted on-site due to the nature of the terrain (paddocks).

We also suggest bringing a pair of sunnies, sunblock and a ‘hand-bag’ umbrella in case the weather gets wet.

Check in

Please note – as this is a special charter flight, do not check-in online or via the Qantas app.

From 5:30am at the Qantas Business Lounge, Sydney Domestic T3

Skip the check-in kiosks and proceed straight through security to the Business Lounge. The Qantas lounge hosts at reception will provide you with your boarding pass. Don't forget to bring photo ID.

There is a sneak peak of what's up for grabs at the bottom of this email. Method of payment on the day will be via cash or credit card.

Fancy an upgrade?
