hi there,

so I am going to arrive into DXB from Australia on QF at 0040. I then have to fly out of DXB to Yerevan at 0730 (about 7hrs later) on Fly Dubai.

Wondering what my options are on the ground for that time. is there a hotel option at the airport? lounge option? am I just going to need to sleep on a bench ... ???

its kind of not long enough for anything really, but long enough to be a pain in the neck.

thanks in advance for tips.

I think Fly Dubai leaves from the old terminal at DXB, doesn't it ( did 2 years ago when I flew it).

If so, the LCC terminal is on the other side of DXB, so plan accordingly.

mad bad missed it was Fly Dubai not EK. Sorry. My suggestion wont work

Yowsers. Great pick up there Roo.

Looks like they still fly from T2 if Wikipedia is up to date. There's a shuttle to/from the other terminals ( in case you can get lounge access there) 20-30 mins.

T2 is a bit of a shed, but I don't recall a bad experience. I also liked FlyDubai ( as a LCC).

yeah looks like a terminal change is necessary. QF1 gets into T3 and the Fly Dubai flight I want to get onto leaves from T2.

is that a massive undertaking? have never spent any time in DXB airport, let alone had to transfer etc.

There's a shuttle between terminals - don't know the mechanics, though. 20 to 30 mins according to website.

You might find a paid lounge at T2 (look up DXB airport website), if not a nearby hotel, but its not a great scenario.

Numerous Marhaba lounges in all terminals that can be paid for. Fly Dubai do have a lounge in T2 but not sure of quality and what class you are in?
Have a mate who swears by the Sleep’n’ fly facility in T3. Can stay in individual sleep pods with hourly rates and he reckons they are comfortable and does the trick for a few hours

Unfortunately your LTG will be fruitless at terminal 2. I did the midnight shift a couple times at DXB when I was stationed in Kabul last year and I can tell you it's a bleak place without the comfort of the EK lounge. You're best option would be to search for a 24-hour food joint any where in Dubai (you'll have time on your hands) and whittle away the hours on shish tauk and hookah. Or book a hotel. If not, terminal 2 is a soul-less pit. There'll be plenty of folk sleeping on lounges though if that's your caper. The FZ lounge is limited to say the least.

ok thanks. I'll look at the idea of the sleep pods or a hotel room ...

are there transit hotels - what I mean is a hotel that I can get to and do not have to clear customs and actually enter UAE?

There is indeed a hotel airside (can't recall the name) but it's in terminal 1 and not cheap. You'll then have to find the shuttle to T2 which from experience ran to an irregular schedule (especially at the time you'll need to take it), so much so I always took a cab (a 10 minute journey) or in two cases a local bus. When I was in your situation I railed it to a smokey joint near al riggah station (the train was still operating when I did it) and people watched until it was time to bale.

Dubai International is the Hotel for transit only

this looks like an option. is this what you're mate swears by Jase05? it's in T3 Concourse A just opposite gate A1.
Yes, that is it.
He does it a couple of times a year whilst transiting and can’t fault it. Manages to always snag a few hours sleep and it has power and USB ports to charge up your phone or accessories. Handy that you pay by the hour and don’t have to book, can just show up and get a pod, use it for a few hours and then go and get something to eat in a lounge or eatery
