Hi all.

Hotel prices are obviously expensive this weekend but I couldn't make plans any sooner. I usually stay at the Langham or Sofitel but prices are $500+ per night. Many other hotels are not much cheaper.

We want to be there for the Grand Final (28th Sept) for 2-3 nights but can be flexible either side if we can get a better price - ideally not more than $350 per night. Southbank or the city is our preferred location.

Are there any hotels deals still out there or is it just the dregs of what's left?

Thanks pw.

PS. I am about to head to booking dot com to see what's available.

Atlantis Hotel | Stay right where you belong at Atlantis

Nothing special, but it is available, location is acceptable (albeit not 100% central) and most of all very affordable.

I have stayed there personally several times and for big events it always seems like a good choice. Usually the rates include breakfast too (though I have usually skipped it in favour of a sleep in, or a nice cafe on the water!)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Check out Astra Apartments aka Exo - I found it via Agoda. It's not a hotel per se, it's a new self contained fully furnished apartment. I got the 1BR for about half the price of something of a similar standard. You meet the property manager onsite when you arrive then put the key in the letterbox when you leave.

It is in Docklands on Merchant St between Collins & Bourke. There's a Safeway next door & other shops around.

It's about 10 minutes to walk from Southern Cross or you are within sight of the 31/48 tram terminus.

Don't let the outside put you off because yes, it's fugly.

lastminute.com and wotif.com should give you more ideas.

Some properties available there well under $350 for GF day; maybe more or less on either side of that day.

Accor also seems to have a couple of properties.

These aren't necessarily Southbank situated, but certainly Melbourne CBD.

Haven't stayed at many of these properties or apartments, so not sure what the standard is like (i.e. if not for the GF, would I hand over the price they're asking for). That said, I would have thought with GF, accommodation would have certainly evaporated by now, so I'd jump at whatever you have a hunch is content for you to part money with!

Have a look at Pointshound.

A lot of their rates are quite good, you can get AA miles (or others) and if you need a referral I can offer to do same.

Always use overseas booking sites when booking in australia . You will find alot of mistakes . Try using olotels.com and galahotels.com . These are pretty common ones I can't give away my secret sites but its a start. Also give weholidays.co.uk and umm hrs.com .

locally traveleasy.com.au has some deals here and there and also you get a further 10% when you join. If I was booking it I would find a major hotel chain and then Brg it ;)

if you want further help PM me .

Try hotels.com ... Hotel Windsor is showing as $977 for 3 nights :)
checkin Fri 27, check out Mon
