I was lucky enough to be on yesterday's QF452 which was a tumultuous journey as per the flight record below.

We made it SYD, circled then turned right back around, waited on the ground for 30 mins and then let off after the flight was finally cancelled.

My questions are:

1) what did QF do or do they typically do for accom? I just booked another night on the corporate rate at Westin and didnt muck around at the airport. Got onto the platinum line in 5 secs and rebooked very quickly later that night with a choice of times.

2) I have already received SCs for yesterday's flight so will I receive more for today's rebooked flight at the same fare class?

As for number 1, you would have got a room if you asked (maybe/probably not in that hotel) - but I don't think you can retrospectively ask and send them a bill. No harm in trying though.

As for number 2, good point. They could reverse the points / SCs, and may have already done so, but perhaps they'll just let you keep them noting you've been rather disrupted and a few measly points isn't worth the trouble. You did actually fly, just didn't get to your destination.

You'll definitely get new points for the new flight, the systems are far to automated to know the history.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Friend came in from NZ (delayed there) and then had 4 cancelled flights - decided against a hotel in the city he was offered because he had to be back for a 6am check in and the taxi queue was enormous. Went to check in at 5am - nope you can't get on that flight now its over booked. Finally got on a flight to ADL about 12.30 - he's not a happy camper

Would your travel insurance cover accommodation/meals due to weather delays?

Edit: Depending upon the excess as to whether it would be worthwhile

I nearly always go with no excess for TI - it rarely costs much more and I invariably have some sort of smallish claim

I was on QF163 to Wellington and it was cancelled due curfew in Wellington. That’s fine. I get it. Sent by first lounge host to the Rydges with rooms apparently guaranteed .... nope. Stand off between Rydges, the travel aggregator and Qantas. I get access to the duty manager at Rydges and ask him if there is physically a person in every room of the hotel. He says yes. I wave goodbye to the rest of the Qantas pax waiting (with an explanation) and book into the Westin. The P1 line were fantastic with rebooking me onto better flights and were exasperated at the first lounge for stuffing up with the Rydges. P1 rang me back late in the night very apologetic but pointed out the that first lounge had booked rooms with the Rydges ..... but for the wrong night. Wow!

Have been in a similar situation. Received full status credits for the expected trip which was only half completed. Then received the additional credits on just the second leg the next day when I travelled

I can confirm I received another 20 SCs and 1200 points in the account upon touching down this afternoon.

How long did it take from flight cancellation to getting to your hotel Bablong?

I booked a room as soon as we landed and was first to an empty taxi rank.

Well it took an hour at the Rydges before the plot made sense but I used the Marriot app and for a room straight away at the Westin and happened to snare a taxi straight away that was dropping someone at Rydges. So got to hotel and in room pretty quickly

I was booked on QF467 from SYD to MEL on Friday (7:30pm departure) which was (eventually) cancelled. Other flights were cancelled a lot earlier and our flight had a rolling 15/30 mins delay until it was cancelled. There was a long line to rebook flights in the QP and I waited for about 45mins until it was my turn. Was advised QF would reimburse hotel costs up to $200 but not for taxi back home given its weather related.

The lounge staff noted I was rebooked on the 5pm service on Saturday (QF453) and handed the new boarding pass to me. They have also advised I should come back in the morning to see if I can get on an earlier flight but noted it might be hard as all flights were overbooked. Went to lounge Saturday morning at 7am to give it try but gave up after 3 hours and went home. Got on my rebooked flight and landed in MEL almost 24 hours late.

Whilst frustrating, I have to say all QF staff I have encountered were patient and helpful given all the work they have to do.

I was delayed a couple of hours which is not long in the grand scheme of things.

Surprised to see so many outbound bags on the carousel when I did arrive and around midnight there were still 40-50 people at check-in/sales desk trying to sort out their onward flights and accommodation.

Saturday is usually a light travel day and I flew VA back to BNE on the 5:00pm and there were quite a few vacant seats.

Weather has been a general issue in SYD on Friday night for quite a few months now. Feels like at least 6 months.

Same here, was on QF467 which was cancelled. Rebooked on QF453.

I was told to send the accommodation receipt to QF customer care and that they would reimburse for $200. Same thing about not reimbursing transport or meals, however the compensation on website says that you are entitled to $30? It was a 22 hour delay for me.
