I have been a frequent user of ASA and have now come up against the problem of getting two seats on the one flight internationally. Jo'burg to Perth Business 1 fare 80,000 but 2 flying the fare goes to 400,000 points each. This is common regardless of dates chosen. So end result my wife flies SA direct to Perth on 80,000 and on the same day I fly QANTAS to Sydney . Brisbane and return to Perth on separate leg to get ASA at a reasonable price. So that sorted the May Flights.

I am now attempting to book ASA to Santiago. Same issue no matter what date - 1 person fly cheap (points) but more than 1 price quadruples in points. This is the first time I have come across this "pricing" game.
Is this a new proposition by QANTAS to accommodate the single traveler but not partners? We are both Platinum - but will now have to review the whole FF thing when we can use Singapore without any status and always get 1st & Business flights together.

Anyone else suffering with the new single ticket issue?

Yes same problem, booking 1 CNS/HKG in J OK, I try 2 and no go and its 6 months away.

I did some random searching for 2 pax in Business to Santiago. Most of the cheap(er) ASA availability I can see seems to be in the middle of the year. September is an absolute no-go, which seems to be common every single year. Also, I haven't done it thoroughly, but I can't find many flights for the QF direct, instead they are booked on the QF codeshare LA operated flight, which goes via AKL.

I'm not sure how much more the points should be compared to the Classic price in this case, due to the fuel surcharge.

So not entire impossible, but definitely difficult as you would expect for more than one traveller in premium class.

Classic Award availability is similarly thin, but if I wanted some specific-ish dates, I'd be tempted to call Qantas and request the seats.

I did a dummy booking yesterday MEL-HKG in J for 1 pax yesterday and it came up with ~ 85,000 pts each way. I think I was looking at November. The Classic return value is 120,000 pts. I then put in 3 pax and the same pts value came up for each! I was surprised. Using the slider down to the Classic award value ie. 360,000 pts. for all, the dollar value was around $1,600 all up.

It was just a random date. Must have just been lucky.

I've been looking for SIN x 2 FASA since Nov - wanted to have one more trip in style before the sand trap comes into play......nothing from either SYD or MEL.

Have you checked expert flyer as to what fare buckets are available prior to searching the QF site?

This may help you find dates that have 2 cheap JASA fares available

providor, since you are both WP have you tried booking one seat each on the same flight in your own names instead of you trying to book both seats on the one booking?

I don't know if this would help but it's another option to try...............

O/T- Tried AA? 45k points on the BA flights one way...

Not yet! Very interested in AA and their purchase/points scheme.

You can get F seats on BA almost any day of the week thru QF classic......QF in the "sands of time" days is a completely different story.

Would be interesting to see the result of that ????

I thought we could make the booking in J at same time on our 2 computers, wonder what would happen?.

There are 2 J seats going over but only showing one return.

Wouldn't you need to book one first ?.......want to make sure it's a fare that can can cancelled FOC!

Is a classic award seat, if I book one then the another return seat may not be available, so Im thinking we (Mrs. Lime/Self) both book at same time online.

Might be a good idea to review EF to confirm how many seats are available.

In the past we've taken the punt & just waited for the plethora of CX/BA seats to flood the market. Of course these are classic not ASA, last minute bookings & you need to be flying N/W not E:-|

There is a chance with that, that one of the bookings will fail to confirm.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I have found the same problem when trying to book a JASA for 2 people. Have not booked yet but I found that if I logged into Qantas via 2 different browsers and selected 1 seat in each browser I could get to the Review Your Flight screens on both browsers. From here I am assuming that I will be able book 2 JASA and then contact Qantas and get them linked.

Be careful their system might only accept one at the lower price and then auto reprocess the next one ?????

Update on Single ASA availability. For my wife and self (both plat) Booked 2 seperate flights JASA from JoBurg - 1-Perth on SAA and 1-Syd-Bris on Qantas on same day using the lowest points for ASA -

Then (similarly no double fares available) on opening day for new year booked Single JASA Per - Santiago but two days apart. Wife will enjoy couple of days in Santiago waiting my arrival. Once more cant find cheap international double bookings using ASA.

Rang platinum help and they could not help transfer either one to the same flight. Their advice - cancel ASA and pay full J fare!!
