Any Easy way to do this HNL+DFW trip?

I want to go from Perth to Honolulu, stay in Hawaii, then onwards to Dallas, stay in Dallas, then return to Perth. The cheapest routing I've found in Mid-late july is $3000 utilising various airlines and one way tickets. Is this method of searching for one way flights the only real way for me to do the trip?

It's a little hard to offer specific advice without knowing your travel dates. But it's generally more expensive to buy one-way fares. Instead, try to find an airline that offers multi-city bookings and ideally also flies to Hawaii.

For example, perhaps have a look at doing a multi-city booking with Air New Zealand. I was able to price PER-AKL-HNL, HNL-LAX and LAX-AKL-PER in a single booking for $2,112. There's also an option to fly IAH-AKL-PER (i.e. flying out of Houston, not Los Angeles) on the last leg for an extra ~$300. You'd then just need to add LAX-DFW flights which I expect would cost around $200 each way (e.g. using Southwest).



It might also work out cheaper if you purchase separate tickets between Perth and Sydney/Brisbane, then make a Hawaiian Airlines multi-city booking departing from Sydney. For example, here's a Hawaiian Airlines itinerary from BNE-HNL, HNL-LAX and returning LAX-SYD. Once you add on the PER-SYD and LAX-DFW/DAL flights it will probably end up a little cheaper than the Air NZ option.

I agree using multi city bookings with one airline/alliance rather than a series of one way fares is the way to go. One ways are rarely half the return fare.
Also look at round the world tickets. These can be good value.
To get back to Perth from the eastern USA a flight over the North Pole to Singapore or Hong Kong may be easier than a Trans Pacific plus domestic trans Australia. Returning via the Middle East could also work.
