As per the title, just wondering if there are any disadvantages booking WTP on AA code?

The real items of interest are - the effect on op-up chances (I realise this is a long shot, but BA actually do seem to op-up pax occasionally from WTP) and use of Avios upgrade voucher (not particularly important - have 2 of these, but want to save these for LHR-SIN segments when flying back to AU).

I'm probably going to overshoot QF WP by considerable margin this year, so possibly I should look to start crediting to alternate programs. QF has gutted BA earn since the Emirates deal as part of their bust up, but WTP still earns 110%. AA code also earns 110% but I also receive a 100% status bonus.

QF
- Earns quite good TP and miles - LTS?
- 100% status bonus on AA flight number over BA booking.
- High surcharges on awards = points are pretty useless unless domestic QF/AA or QF long-haul U class released award from QFF Plat desk.
- Already have heaps of QF points.

BA
- Don't see any benefit of aiming for status here.
- High surcharges on awards = points are just as useless as QF (except for intra-EU)
- Program seems to have been seriously nerfed this year. Only worth getting avois for RFS ex LON. I have the Lloyds Avios card getting me these.

AA
- Considering as an alternate program, due to SWU and 500mile upgrades (Seem to be in the US relatively frequently now)
- Good burn options for Intl Awards.

Cheers

I think the big difference you will see is that BA will be more likely to offer the lower Y+ classes, resulting in lower $$ cost. I have seen T class on the AA website, but it's like hen's teeth. If someone has other experience, please tell us where and how.

Of course, only to minimize the wandering

It was difficult to 100% ascertain it was T class when booking with Orbitz and Priceline, so I opted for the BA code. Mixing BA/AA codes for short/longhaul works badly, as BA adds extra $30 in YQ per flight if not BA on transatlantic leg.

Europe to US high season. Fare was lower than many N class economy fares on offer.
