Hey all,

In 2018 I went on a family trip to europe.

I flew QF MEL-LHR PE sale = (140 sc's at the time.... 60 from MEL-SIN and 80 SIN-LHR)
My first destination, however, was Berlin (TXL) So as soon as I got off the plane at LHR, I hopped on a BA flight to Berlin (TXL) in which I earned 20 Status Credits.... All these flghts MEL-SIN-LHR-TXL were under the same Qantas booking reference as shown below

Thu 27 Sep 2018
QF 3537 FLEXIBLE ECONOMY/FLEXIBLE ECONOMY 25-SEP-2018 LONDON/BERLIN J79YP5‡Status credits for this flight are not included in the current year total1,20020

Tue 25 Sep 2018QF 0001 DISCOUNTED PREMIUM ECONOMY/ 24-SEP-2018 SINGAPORE/LONDON J79YP5‡Status credits for this flight are not included in the current year total7,20080
Mon 24 Sep 2018QF 0035 DISCOUNTED PREMIUM ECONOMY/- 24-SEP-2018 MELBOURNE/SINGAPORE J79YP5‡Status credits for this flight are not included in the current year total5,20060

However, when I checked the QF website before.. Melbourne to Berlin Discount PE will get you the same amount of SC's as if you were simply flying MEL-SIN-LHR, although you have to fly MEL-SIN-LHR-TXL(BA)

1. Can anybody tell me why I got 20 SC's for the LHR-TXL flight?

2. Do these 20 SC's count towards the Status Bonus ie 8000 points or 50 Status Credits?

Thanks again!

1) SC are awarded for each individual flight number. So, as there were different flight numbers on each segment, you will receive SC for each segment.

2) They would have done, but as this was in 2018, probably doesn't matter any more!

1. So what you are saying is that despite the QF booking site showing 150 Status Credits when you type MEL-TXL on a DY+ fare, (yes you can see the 3 sectors,) it's ACTUALLY 150 SC's + 20 SC's (For the BA LHR-TXL leg)?

Is this a bit of an error on the QF booking site?

2. I just looked through my Status history from 1-AUG 2018 - 31JUL 2019. This was the first year I made Silver, then Gold... And the 20 SC's I earned on the LHR-TXL leg ie QF3537 DID count towards the loyalty bonus at 500 points.

Thanks

That's a yes and a no. The booking engine appears to be displaying the total earn on QF-operated flights only, when viewing at the first flight selection screen. Screenshot below of the same flights, showing PE Sale, PE Saver and PE Flex (L-R) when attempting to book.

This suggests a total earn of 140SC – that we know from your activity statement is accurate for QF as you booked PE Sale. The 150SC you are quoting is for PE Saver. I note that when you proceed through the booking stages, the QF website does give an accurate total of 160SC at a later point – and also reports the correct points at that stage – incorporating the BA-operated QF flight earn total of 20SC.

This is later confirmed when I plug the flights into the Frequent Flyer Points Calculator to get the same points/SC totals.

The reason for this is highlighted in the T&C (my emphasis):
20.8 Loyalty Bonus
20.8.1
Members will earn a choice of Loyalty Bonus of either 8,000 Qantas Points or 50 Status Credits for every 500 Status Credits earned on flights with a Qantas (QF) flight number (including partner airline flights with a Qantas (QF) flight number) or on flights with a Jetstar Airlines (JQ, 3K, GK and BL) flight number (including partner airline flights with a Jetstar Airlines flight number) within a single membership year - up to a maximum of four Loyalty Bonuses per membership year. See the Airline Earning Tables for eligible flights and fares that earn Status Credits.

Ripper of a response! I use the QFF points & Status Credits calculator so often I have it bookmarked. Thanks for showing me the "this flight could be earning you....."

I had never noticed that before whilst making a booking.

Cheers

1. For a start, there are no PE seats on BA Metal LHR-TXL. What was your fare bucket? "Y"?

2. Given the "‡Status credits for this flight are not included in the current year total" agaist each of the flight transactions, I am guessing your Qantas FF "year" ended September 30th. If so, those 20SC's would have credited to your 2018-2019 "Year" status bonus given the flight is marketed by QF (QF3537). None of those 160 SC would have credited to your current year SC bonus tally.

A year or two ago, it would have been designated as a ~ flight.

My Anniversary is July 31, and apologies... I wasn't talking about the current year. This trip was taken in Sept/Oct 2018, and the 20 Status Credits I earned on the BA codeshare were counted towards Loyalty Bonus.

Ha!

I went with the more likely possibility ... still, as posted, the SC count for Loyalty Bonus (due to the QF flight number) in your 2018-2019 "Year".
