Why do some journalists get it so wrong:

"If you’ve never heard of de Crespigny, he’s the captain who came to fame in 2010 by safely managing to land the stricken flight QF32 on one engine back in Singapore with 470 passengers and crew on-board after the other three of the A380’s engines had shutdown upon take off."

http://karryon.com.au/knowledge/qantas-business-class-dubai-london-review/

Fact:
3 engines not shutdown at any point in flight or on takeoff.
Flying on 3 engines not 1 albeit 2 were in "degraded mode"

Number 2 blew up
Number 1,4 operating in "degraded mode" - the engine - aircraft computer communication affected.
Number 3 : operational.

:D Nothing unusual there. I'm more shocked if they get the facts CORRECT:D 'Jounalists'/'bloggers' do provide lots of LOL moments for me:D

Weren't there an extraordinary number of pilots on board for some unusual reason and it was only as a team effort with their combined skills that they managed to land it?

Not a lot of smart cookies in the comments either:

"ExtensiveHandsOnExperience 3 days agoWhy would any sensible traveler fly Qantas when you can fly with Emirates?? Qantas is the single most dog meat international airline operating from a respectable western country. The service is rubbish, the food is rubbish and the overall experience is expensive. Give me Emirates any day."

Media Watch is needed, transport stories always seem to be covered poorly and by journalists who either don't have time or can't be bothered to check anything. From what I gather many don't bother.

Yes,

There were 6 pilots with 5 on flight deck
The usual 3 - PIC, FO, SO
The other 2 - one was a CC (check captain) who was evaluating PIC as per mandatory requirements and CCC - a CC who was checking how the CC was checking the PIC.
The 6th was a QF pilot but as a passenger.

In the final analysis it was a lot of luck - hot engine fragments tore through left wing fuel tank and excellent crew working together - both flight and cabin.

Im hoping this thread could be about the topic and not QF32 which has been rehashed many times which makes it all the more incredible that this journalist could get it wrong. Maybe he was in a state of dizzy elation spending his time in Biz.

Even media watch gets it wrong or gives a portrayal from one side of the political divide.

Why do some journalists get it so wrong:

Because short of a few aviation geeks, no one really cares about the details, and chances are if you've never heard of deCrespigny then you really don't care about even the number of engines a plane has, as long as they all work (or in this case didn't)

Whilst I do not agree, I respect the writer has a right to an opinion, perhaps based on their own experience on a particular flight.
Maybe they are just venting some anger?

:D :D :D Ironic to have wrong statements in a thread about wrong statements on the internet.

Thats if you believe there is right or wrong in all opinions  Even opinions based on fact are not necessarily right or wrong and opposing opinions may be drawn from the same facts

Ah, so you're a rightie then. :D The only people who say that are from the right.

Well if what you say is true, then the corollary is true. "Media Watch does not get it wrong etcetera..." Must be a special kind of journalists who are not biased or who does not get it wrong.

It was just a quick post. I don't see any particular bias in media watch, given the right side of politics' attack dogs on ABC bias I'm sure it would've been found out if there was such bias. Having said that media watch does seem to do a lot of stuff about one side of politics. I tend to think that is more about the consistent tactics that side of politics (well their media champions anyway) constantly employ, rather than bias. But there is also a fair number of stories on the other side of politics.

I hope my [snip] was enough show I wasn't saying media watch are always correct.

The myths continue don't they?

It was a route check, which would normally mean there'd be an extra captain in the coughpit. In this case the checker was also under training, so there were two extra.

'Combined skills' should describe a normal coughpit operation, whether there are 2 or 10 pilots.

Whilst I'm sure the extra guys helped as much as they could, a coughpit is the same as kitchen in that you can have too many cooks. The outcome would have almost certainly been identical with a 2 man crew (i.e. just Richard and Matt)...their shirts just would have been sweatier.
