To apply, you must have a household gross (pre-tax) annual income of $65,000 or more (note that this used to be personal income only - so people with lower incomes will be heartened that AMEX has now expanded this to 'household').

The annual fee for this card is fairly steep, at $450, but 100,000 Qantas points is nothing to sneeze at.

In addition to the bonus points you'll receive each year:
- $450 Qantas Travel Credit for eligible international or domestic Qantas flights when you book and pay online at American Express Travel(travel.americanexpress.com.au)
- 2x American Express Lounge entries (Sydney and Melbourne International airports)
- 2 Qantas Club Lounge invitations
- A range of comprehensive insurances is also provided

Bonus point eligibility
As usual, the terms and conditions state that card Members who currently hold or who have previously held any other Consumer Credit Card product issued by American Express Australia Limited in the preceding 18 month period are ineligible for this offer.

Here’s referral link if anyone’s interested. You receive 100,000 Qantas points, I receive 30,000.

Apply by 14 April 2019, are approved and spend $3,000 in the first 3 months to receive points.

$450 Qantas Travel CreditEach year offsets the $450 annual fee. Also includes 2 qantas lounge passes.

1.25 Qantas points per dollar spent (except 0.5 points for government spend)

No bonus points if you have held any Amex issued card within preceding 18 months. Previous and existing bank-issued American Express companion cardholders are eligible for this offer (cards issued by: ANZ, Commonwealth Bank, NAB, Westpac)

The link says the applicant needs to have a personal gross income of $65,000. Can't see anywhere which states that household income is considered.

I haven't had a look specifically at this offer, but can confirm that for quite sometime AMEX has allowed 'household income'.

I must have missed this development. May have to bring this to the attention of my retired parents. Thanks!

Also, i can confirm i used this for my wife last year, in the application it asks for household income not personal income from memory.

Will my partner be able to apply for this card if she is a supplementary card holder on my Amex Explorer?

If so would my referral link to her work even though I have a different type of Amex card?

Yes to the first question.

No to the second question unless it is in the same 'class' of card. But try and see if you can create a referral link for her.

Thanks Ralph, appreciate the response.

Just ticked over to my 2nd year of having this card (unfortunately was only 80k sign-on bonus when I joined) and received a research survey from them today about the card and how I use it compared to my next most used card (i.e. visa), I made it clear i use Amex unless they don't take it or there is a surcharge.
