Amex have increased the sign on points for the American Express Explorer Card again.

The sign on bonus of 100,000 Gateway points is the same if you are referred or not, however I have read on AFF that people believe the referral component is crucial if you want to receive the bonus points as an existing Amex Card holder (please correct me if this is not a determining factor in getting sign on bonuses as an existing Amex cardholder). As a referrer I will get 30,000 bonus points.

Love this card, and with 100,000 sign on points this is still a great offer. I am loving the 1SPG point per $ spent. But plenty of value to be had with 1.5 airline miles per $ (possibly even 2 airline miles per $ if your lucky!)

There is plenty of great info on getting the best out of this card on this site. I managed to unlink and relink my Gateway and Ascent programs as an existing cardholder and then get 2 airline points/miles per $1 spent after that. I am also excited about transferring to SPG then Marriott for their flights and stay offers, Alaskan Airline miles here we come.

This is fluid situation though, so best to read up on the most recent posts on this thread.
http://www.australianfrequentflyer.c...mex-77925.html (The Explorer Credit Card (New AMEX Card!))

What has been working for my friends as recently, has been to set up a new amex online login for the Explorer if you are an existing Platinum Edge/Platinum Charge Card holder. Then your Explorer card will automatically come with a Gateway account, once you make the minimum spend you will get the 100,000 bonus points. Then you can call Amex to have your two logins combined, when this happens you should automatically have your points pooled to Ascent/Ascent Premium. As mentioned my friend did this process, but keep an eye on the thread to see the latest happenings.

I wanted to share a tip to anyone signing up for this card to derive even more value from the card. If you find this useful I'd very much appreciate you using my referral link:

It is possible to add yourself as a supplementary card holder, I just did this with Amex. When you add yourself as a supplementary card holder it is called an "Account Card" or "A/C" card. I have one of these on my Gold Charge card as well. I did this with my initials rather than full name to tell the cards apart. It is possible to have all 4 free supplementary cards in your own name.

Why would you do this?

1. When I called up to add myself as my first of 4 free supplementary card holder I asked if they were still offering the 5,000 bonus points for adding an additional card holder. The lady went off and checked and said although the recent promo has ended, that it wasn't a problem and added the points. These points have already been added to my account and I haven't even used the card yet. The points were noted as "Service Complaint points adjustment", I didn't complain just asked!
2. One of the best things about Amex at the moment is their Statement Credit offers. I have saved a couple of thousand dollars from the cashbacks this year. Shop small, Harvey Norman, HCF, David Jones, Langtons, Westfield and Myer to name a few. Never hurts to have as many Supplementary cards as possible especially in your own name especially when this card comes with 4 free supplementaries.
3. The reason behind an A/C card is you set up all your direct debits on this card and then keep it safe at home somewhere separate from your other card/wallet. Then if you lose your wallet you don't need to change over all of your direct debits.

There are some great tips on this site on how to get the most out of this card, make sure you subscribe to these threads:

Amex Statement Credits have saved me thousands this year.

For when your annual fee is approaching call and ask them "What have you done for me lately?" I got 84,000 points to keep my American Express Gold Charge Card. The annual fee is only $130!! I got the same offer on my Platinum Edge as well!!!
http://www.australianfrequentflyer.c...-71493-11.html (Amex "I'm going to cancel my card" - bonus points given thread.) (Amex "I'm going to cancel my card" - bonus points given thread.)

Hope everyone is able to get some value from the above. Any queries please let me know.

The benefits of this card include a $400 travel credit which offsets the $395 yearly fee. American Express has done it again!

With this new(ish) card, it is offering 1.5 Airline Miles per dollar spent on most credit card purchases.

It gets even better, if you apply the card via Referral link below, you get 100000 Gateway Membership Rewards bonus points instead of usual 50000 bonus points that American Express offers. Please see the referral link below:

APPLY HERE

Now I would get 30000 points as a referrer. However you get many more miles applying via the referral link above, than the standard Amex offering. Therefore it is a win win situation!

So officially 100000 Gateway Bonus Points equates to 75000 Airline Points, unless you already have American Express Ascent account, which you can potentially link the card to Ascent program (after earning bonus points) and it becomes 100000 Ascent points, or 100000 Airline points:

- Virgin Australia Velocity
- Singapore Airlines Krisflyer
- Cathay Pacific Asia Miles
- Emirates Skywards
- Etihad Guest
- Thai Airways Royal Orchid
- Malaysia Airlines Enrich

So what can 75000 Airline Miles get you (assuming no linking to Ascent program)? Here are some of the examples and possibilities:

Cathay Pacific Asia Miles:
- One-way Business Class trip from Sydney/Brisbane to Los Angeles on Qantas Airways (70000 Asia Miles + tax)
- Almost Return Business Class trip from Australia to Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific (80000 Asia Miles + tax)
- Almost Return Business Class trip from Sydney to Tokyo on Japan Airlines (80000 Asia Miles + tax)
- Almost Return Business Class trip from Sydney/Brisbane to Tokyo on Qantas Airways (80000 Asia Miles + tax)

Singapore Krisflyer:
- One-way Business Class from Australia to Singapore/South East Asia/Hong Kong served by Singapore Airlines (58000 Krisflyer Miles + tax)
- Almost One-way First/Suite Class from Australia to Singapore/Hong Kong served by Singapore Airlines (80000 Krisflyer Miles + tax)

This is a fantastic deal! Just signing up the card and spend $1500 within first 3 months, and you get a free Business or almost First/Suites Class trip ticket with it! If you are interested, please apply via the following link:

Had this card for about 6 month now, pays for itself with the $400 travel credit which I used for a Qantas Flight (even saved the Credit Card booking fee).

Other features that I like are being able to use Apple Pay, the Smartphone screen as well as travel insurance, which also saves me several hundred dollars a year.

If you use my referal link, you will get 100,000 membership reward points after spending $1500 in the first 3 months. I also get 30,000 member reward points.

Thank you for considering!

This is a great companion card to have with the Platinum Edge or Platinum Charge. If you are able to link the rewards programs together you will earn 2 points per dollar on most AMEX purchases. The card comes with a $400 travel credit which helps offset the annual fee. There are also lounge passes, travel and screen insurance and access to Amex's generous statement credits included with the card

Sign up now through my link and you will get a bonus 100,000 points and I will receive 30,000 points.

Thanks for considering

Happy hunting

Adding my referral link in if anyone is interested in this offer. You'll get 100,000 bonus points after reaching the minimum spend, which can be transferred out to any of these:
- 50,000 Starwood Hotels (SPG) starpoints (can also be transferred to 150,000 Marriott points)
- 75,000 Velocity points
- 75,000 Krisflyer points
- plus many other options.

I will earn 30,000 points from your sign up and will be very grateful!

Don't forget the $395 annual fee can be easily offset by the $400 travel credit you get, and all of the cashback and promotional offers from Amex.

My story: Started seriously collecting points a few years back and so far my wife and I have enjoyed or have booked:
Last year, Sydney to Shanghai upgrade with points to Business on Qantas, and Hong Kong to Sydney upgrade with points to Business on Qantas;
Upcoming this year, Sydney to Paris classic award Business class on Emirates; London to Shanghai classic award business class on British Airways; Shanghai to Sydney First Class Suites on Singapore Airlines A380; 5 nights free in 5 star Rome hotel, 2 nights in 5 star London hotel, 3 nights in Shanghai hotel, and more.

I would really appreciate anyone using my referral link (is there anything more original that I can say?) - I use other people's links, and always believe that what goes around, comes around. I'm just about to fly on my very first business class flight (EVER) thanks to the advice that I have received (and followed) on this forum. Thanks!

The special deal at the moment, makes it quite attractive.

You receive 100,000Membership Rewards points if you are approved for an American Express Explorer[SUP]TM[/SUP]Card by 15 May 2017 and spend $1,500 in your first 3 months of Card Membership.

You get $400 travel credit per 12 month period, which is quite handy. (flights, hotel, or accommodation). I used mine for accommodation at Cradle Mountain - very handy!

The card has an annual fee of $395.

I get 30,000 points.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

The Explorer is in my opinion one of the best earning Amex's for everyday purchases, gaining 2 points per dollar on most purchases.

You'll get 100,000 MR Gateway points after your first $1500 spend, provided it's done in the first 3 months. (Instead of the normal 50,000)

The $400 travel credit offsets the $395 annual fee. If you spend more on top of the travel credit through Amex Travel, you'll get a bonus MR point per $1 spent (until 31/12/17) taking Amex Travel purchases to 3ppd.

Much appreciated if you apply via this link, I'm saving up for 2x J RTW *A fares! http://amex.com.au/refer/nichom6vHi

Disclaimer: I'll receive 30,000 MR points for this referral

If you apply for this card using my link and refer your partner, you have enough points for a 7 night holiday in South East Asia including business class return flights for two!

With two cards you earn:

100k sign-on bonus for the first card
100k sign-on bonus for the second card
30k referral bonus for referring your partner.
Total = 230k AMEX points = 115k SPG Points = 345k Marriott Rewards Points! That's enough for a...

Marriott Travel Package: - 7 nights in a Marriott category 7 (or less) hotel & 132k United Miles - enough for 2x return business class flights to South Asia from Australia

So where could you go? - Here's a few examples:

Location
NightsHotel
Est. Hotel Cost
(if paid in cash)
Est. Flight cost
(if paid in cash)
Est. Total Value
Khao Lak, Thailand7[h=3]JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort & Spa[/h]$1,246$4,601 x2$10,448
Phu Quoc, Vietnam7JW Marriott Emerald Bay Resort & Spa$4,093$3,377 x2$10,847
coughet, Thailand7[h=3]Renaissance coughet Resort & Spa[/h]$1,379$4,601 x2$10,581
Bali, Indonesia7[h=3]The Stones Hotel - Legian Bali, Autograph Collection[/h]$1,050$4,604 x2$10,258
The above flights were all with Thai Airways and on the dates I searched, award availability was good. Factoring in the ~$130pp of taxes for the award flights, there's some serious value to be had here!

So what does the Explorer card cost?

Annual Fee: $395 per card offset by the $400 travel credit - Just spend it on tours or a domestic holiday. Alternatively, you can try cancelling the card within 3 months for an annual fee refund. Disclaimer: I receive 30,000 MR points for your successful application.

If this has provided any inspiration for your next holiday, it would be most appreciated if you used my referral link here: amex.com.au/refer/eliismEjw3

Would appreciate if anyone use my referral link below, applied the card (via referral link from the forum) for the bonus points signup and thought of cancelling once i got it, but kept the card coz of the earning rate.. some of the key points..
  • Earn up to 2MRpoints for every $1 spent on most purchases except government will only earn 0.5points per $1
  • Transfer your points to a choice of 8 Airline Partner Programs (NO QANTAS)
  • Smartphone Screen Insurance for up to $500 for screen repairs when the phone plan or outright phone are paid via the card
  • $400 travel credit which can be used for :
$395 annual fees, which will be offset by the $400 travel credit above. And the most important point if you use referral is you will receive 100,000 MR points (instead of 50,000 MR points) if approved by 15 May 2017 and spend $1,500 in their first 3 months of Card Membership (and I'll receive 30,000 MR)

http://amex.com.au/refer/peikhlLiNH

Best ever credit card - Amex Explorer.

You'll be awarded 100,000 Gateway points after your first $1500 spend within first 3 months.

This credit card comes with $400 travel credit P.A which offsets the $395 annual fee, and makes this credit card basically a free annual fee card. It also comes with smartphone screen insurance, purchase protection insurance & travel insurance, in addition you get 2 x free lounge access to Sydney American Express every year.

It would be greatly appreciated if you apply via this link, this would make my euro trip dream come a lot sooner. http://amex.com.au/refer/mengzcEBk

Please do make sure that your account is link to gateway rewards before using this card (e.g., if it is linked to ascent rewards, you will have to call amex and re-link to gateway before you can get the bonus points), I'll receive 30,000 rewards points for this referral.

Happy to answer all amex related queries, cheers.

I really can’t speak highly enough of this card. It comes with a great earn rate of 2pts/$ for basically all spend except government and its this feature that has seen me rack up the points at a rapid rate (for me). I’m typically not a very large spender (only maybe $2k per month) but the points seem to tick over very nicely here. I’m sure if you’re a larger spender you will be even more impressed.

Points are earned to the Gateway rewards program which transfers to most frequent flyers schemes at a rate of 1:0.75 however you may be able to improve that a little by reading the tips contained in the main AMEX Explorer Card discussion in the current credit card offers section of the forum. ;)

While the annual fee comes in at a higher than ideal $395/yr, this is more than offset by the $400 travel credit that comes with the card. Think of it as paying $395 of your next holiday in advance. Not a bad deal!

Now, as many would know Mrs NoName and I ate our way through various parts of the US last year on flights which were completely points-funded. I’m looking to go back some time in 2018 with the goal of returning in SQ Suites Class (don’t tell Mrs NoName!). With the recent increase in redemption rates by SQ I find myself in the unfortunate position of being a little short of the required points balance. However this can be rectified in one fell swoop by a single kind forum member. If anyone is kind enough to use my link to sign up for this card it will put me over the top. If you enjoyed my trip report last time and would like to see more gluttonous displays in the future then a sign-up through my link would be very much appreciated.

Additional bonus offer: Anyone who uses my link to sign up will in addition to the fantastic 100k bonus points, earn the right to decide a dining venue for me to visit on the next USofEating trip as well as the dish I consume there. (max US$100 and in a city/town I visit).

Thank you in advance for helping me return to the United States Of Eating and another dose of excess food consumption!

Adding my link to the mix. This one is my favourite card and a keeper for me.
