Yes I do mean Status matching. I was under the impression that Emirates status' automatically receive the equivalent for Qantas and other partners?
You could use your EK Gold status when flying Qantas to receive the benefits of Gold, that's not a status match, but it would entitle you to lounge access, etc...

Doesn't that mean that Qantas Club membership is of little value as Gold gets you in the same lounges?

It certainly seems that way, but EK and QF may not be linked forever. Also, Qantas Club gets you into AA lounges when flying them, but I'm not sure the same is true for EK status? I haven't looked into it as I don't need it.

Thanks that makes sense. Was hoping there was a way to get access to additional QANTAS rewards seats through EK gold but I guess there isn’t

It all depends on your level of risk taking and spend levels as I would not want to run the risk of seeing a 7 or 8 figure rewards points stash suddenly removed due to putting too much business spend on a personal account.
Amex don't mind if you use a "personal"/consumer card for business purposes. It's not excluded under the T&Cs. I was chatting to them the other day about my consumer Platinum Card and they said if I was using it for business purposes I could submit business financials to have the "limit" increased.

Interesting that this thread was featured in this mornings gazette as I've spent a lot of time recently focused on analysing the supposed benefits of the card – whether or not I could extract value. The only way I think I could see it working for me would be if I got a tax deduction for the card fee. I do get paid through an ABN :D

the spend on explorer was 400k pm - mostly personal spend, perhaps 20% business - this was a pain as explorer had limit of 50 k so I had to continuously top up.

400k per month spend! You must be drowning in frequent flyer points!

What is it you do?! Teach me, please :)

I applied and got declined i assume due no reply with recently with 800k spend the previous year spend across edge and explorer, i dont have a charge or plat

Very little of that spend would be considered as discretionary spend

I think spending 400K a month is fairly easy with the right business..
No, what's impressive here is the 80% personal claim..

So getting on to $4 Million a year in personal spend on an AMEX card hey!

So, in my life, I can only put through about 25% of what I spend annually through my AMEX card's.

For example, my biggest spends like the home loan, private school fees, car loans etc, well, none of them can be paid for with my AMEX..

So assuming the same 25% ratio, that would imply that Pointy Bird now spends $16M a year in total.

Even if we said that somehow the poster lives on $10M a year (perhaps their ratio of total spend to AMEX spend is different to mine) that still means they earn circa $20M a year, to be able to spend circa $10M a year after tax.

You could count on one hand how many people in Australia earn north of $20M as an employee.

So presumably they are either a business owner, or have an outrageous portfolio..

If someone owns a business making circa $20 M a year, (or has a portfolio throwing of that sort of cash), they are almost certainly on the BRW Rich 200 list, and we are absolutely honored that someone of that calibre is gracing us with their presence!!

Mad respect!!

Far too many incorrect assumptions here....

Not BRW Rich list - I am missing a couple of zeros for that...
BRW Rich list people do not chase points - I do.
Spending a few $million pa is not the same as earning that amount.
Most of my non business spend was simply getting my house builder to agree to be paid by amex.
Many of my >10,000,000 points were accumulated in the good old days of 2 point/$ on Explorer (now cancelled).

Since Amex devaluations, I only use this card for tax deductible expenses OR when credit card fee is low or nil.

Wealth is not in itself a reason to be respected.

Not really, those figures dont mean anything

Amex dont have exact strict rules and is a case by case thing. So 80% isnt a set benchmark.

Also, you dont have to be bill gates to put huge busienss/mixed turnover on you card,
You could just have a busienss that sells expensive things with lower margins

If you needed 20m to get profit a year to get a centurion, there would be so few cards

Ive heard comments that you need 250k discretionary spend a year , to be.eligible, which the rules may change year by year

250k post tax is a lot but no where in the realms of 20m per year

Does the Centurion card include a supplementary black card for a spouse? Or does this have an additional cost.

Also, does the Australian version have zero foreign transaction fees?

Spouse gets 2 supp cards and I have 2 supp cards ( total 5 black cards). All 5 itemised individually on statement. No extra cost for this. Can also get 5 extra Platinum cards for no cost - I did not get these.
Foreign fee 3%

Spouse gets 2 supp cards and I have 2 supp cards ( total 5 black cards)
Can you explain what these cards are? For instance on the Platinum Charge you can get a standard card and an additional card with a/c at the end of the name part, for the primary account holder, but I am not aware of the partner card also getting the additional card.

In my experience, the primary cardholder (not suppose) can get an a/c card for all Amex cards.

With Centurion, I have 3 "black" cards with my name, 1 main ( titanium), 1 A/C ( titanium) and 1 more A/C which is made of plastic which can be used for tapping.
My spouse has 2 "black" cards with her name, 1 main (titanium) and 1A/C , with the latter being plastic for tapping.
These 5 black cards are all Centurion cards and earn points at the higher rate.
We are entitled to 5 platinum charge cards as well - these earn points at a slightly lower rate.
It total - one can get 10 cards - all on same account but each card's expenses are listed individually making it simpler for accountants ...
