Hi All

Please apologise the question from the new arrival here, but I couldn't find a thread that already asked this issue!

I am booked for QF 107/108 SYD - JFK on 20 Sep, return on 18 Oct in T Class (Premium Economy). I've spoken with QFF about seat requests, the flight there is very busy and no allocation can be arranged yet, but the seat back I was already allocated a seat before calling, 30J. Having a look at the various seat maps of the Longreaches, I can only find one plane with this seat, and the seat appears to be business, it looks like all Premium Economy for QF is Seat 34 or later.

My question is, is there any way I can confirm I have already been upgraded this leg? I have enough points to upgrade one leg of my trip, but seeing as my itinerary still shows T the whole way, I just wanted to ask if there is any way to tell if you have already been upgraded on a leg before I consider how to spend my points.

Thanks very much!

In response to the economic downturn, Qantas have been designating certain Premium Economy seats on some flights as Economy seats, and certain Business Class seats on some flights as Premium Economy seats. This effectively allows Qantas to sell more Economy seats.

If you have been assigned 30J, it's possible that your PE seat is now a J seat. What will most likely happen thought, is that you'll be receiving Premium Economy service in a Business class seat.

Your call as to whether to upgrade should be influenced by whether you want Business Class service in your Business Class seat.

Seats in row 30 are business seats.
It's more likely a 747 with no PE seats will operate your flight so all PE pax will be upgraded to business. This happend on SYDHKG route very often.

swissbignose has it correct. If things stay the same, Ben will have J seating with PE service.

It is not an upgrade to Business Class, but an upgrade to a Skybed only.

Ben, look up your booking on www.checkmytrip.com.

Once 'logged' into C/M/T look to the bottom of the "your flight selection" box for:
[+]view details click to see additional information including price, payment and flight special requests.

Click the "[+]view details" and the window will expand and you may see any seat pre-selection there. If you do see a seat number, click that/those and you may get a seat map.

If you se a configuration in row 30 of 2x3x2 then you have a skybed.

Same thing happened to me recently, I was upgraded to Y+, and then placed in a J seat (skybed).

IMHO, it's the skybed which is the real difference between Y+ and J, so if your flying Y+ but J seat it'll be a very comfy flight

Thank you all for the assistance.

Having a look at the link posted by Serfty, I can see my seat is a Skybed in a Premium Economy section. I'm quite happy with Premium Economy service, it is more the Skybed I am interested in instead, so it would appear although my class is Prem Economy, the return flight is on a Skybed, meaning my points are much better spent applying for the upgrade to Business on the way over.

Also, could I say again, THANK YOU all for your assistance here, if only all online communities were anywhere near this helpful.....

FYI Ben, your flight out on the 20th is showing very full in all classes except First.

I would assume from this that an upgrade is unlikely.

Still, the seatmap is showing two unoccupied seats in J, and another 11 blocked.
Only one spare in Y+ - that being 30B - and another 2 blocked.

In my experience upgrades are MORE likely on a very full flight.

I would predict a successful upgrade on your outbound trip.

Please let us know if this prediction is correct.

My mistake, yes, if with Y so full and a few spare seats in J, it's certainly a possibility.
