[in the Qantas First lounges] We'll be left with the cheapest bottle that still has the label 'champagne' on it soon...

Note the way Aldi describe it: "Veuve Monsigny Brut Champagne NV".

I had been led to believe that the Veuve acquired an interest, although any confirmation is hard to find.

It could just be "Widow" as in "Widow Monsigny" I guess.

@beefarmer had a post on it three years ago:
Blend: 60% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Meunier
Veuve Monsigny Champagne is available nationally through Aldi Supermarkets. Yes, that’s right people. Aldi!! In fact, it’s an Aldi exclusive.
It’s called ‘Veuve’ Monsigny and we know how fabulous those Veuves are in Champagne! But sadly, on closer inspection of the bottle I found out that it is not actually made by a Veuve (which is French for widow), but by a lovely man by the names of Charles Mignon. Mignon means ‘cute’ in French, so I guess it’s pretty appropriate…
It’s true origin was the only disappointment though because what I was greeted with when I eventually popped the cork was a light, fresh champagne that was gloriously effervescent.
There’s lovely honey and acacia notes on the nose with the overall effect being quite delicate. This was backed up in the mouth with quite fine bubbles feeling pleasantly round on the tongue. My tastebuds were doing a happy dance – the honey transferred to the palate with ripe nectarines making their presence felt.
Lovely, fresh, lemony hints at the end made sure that there was a fresh, clean finish.
Fabulous Ladies of Australia rejoice! We can now all afford to drink champagne at any party. At just under $25 per bottle, this would have to be THE best quality for value sparkling wine of any variety on the market.
[h=3]Drink With[/h]Drink it as an aperitif, or with a fish or chicken course. Or just sip it all night while you are looking fabulously elegant in your party shoes.
Price: $24.99. Yes, you read that right. Real Champagne for under $25 a bottle. Ah-may-zing.
Rating: And it’s GOOD. Really, really good 5/5. Ridiculous value for money.

All I can say is interesting. never tried, could do worse.

and who am I to say......
Campbell Mattinson - The Wine Front (www.winefront.com.au) - 92 Points -
"It's bright, fresh and flavoursome. It's easy to see the attraction, and the quality. Damn good buying, you'd have to say. It tastes of spiced apples, honeysuckle, fuzzy sweet peach and almonds. It rings refreshingly through the finish, with no lack of length. Excellent style, and value."

I reckon Campbell may be taking a leaf out of AC's compendia.
I do live 400 metres from an Aldi ... after all this I am considering taking a walk 😊🍾🍾

There is a link in my post.

It would not concern me if Monsigny was served as an option in a lounge.
Yes, I saw that link, thank you, serfty - but was actually asking about the ownership issue.

Others have now picked it up. (I am slow to the party. Didn’t receive the alerts. :) )

I confess that I’ve never been into an Aldi but will obviously have to make my debut, given the praise being bestowed.
Then again, I’ve been cashing in on the amazing sale prices on Taittinger - and the Pommery adventure - along with the recent PWS Champagne offers, so my stores are overflowing.

Momentarily. :)

As a slightly dyslexic person I read this as Aldi Misogyny champagne. I guess that brand would go better with a Stella knock off.

About what you would expect from the Sandgropers!!!

And prolly as good as they can produce over there also. 👍

Not OT as there is a mention of the Aldi Champs there also
