Just read from Japan Airlines Awards Now Bookable Through Alaska Mileage Plan! - One Mile at a Time

And tried some dummy search and it does have available seats from Asia, too bad Australia is not included..

A few months later than expected, but good to see this is finally possible.

Looks like you can only redeem AS miles for JL flights within Asia, or between Asia and North America. But still better than nothing.

Another option I look forward to using into the USA..A little dearer in points than the CX option but not a deal breaker for me

something that could prove valuable to people is that you can fly say SIN - TOK - BKK for just 25K miles in J

Was able to get SIN-TOK <> KIX - BKK to come up at 25K miles as well.

You could basically do any point in asia to japan to another point in asia and get the free stopover.

pretty good value imho.

it's one of the neat tricks with aalaaska air in that they allow a free stopver. can do the same thing with CX say from SYD to HKG then onto Taipei for no extra cost to just SYD - HKG.

I was able to get it to work. Try doing a multi-city booking, SIN-HND for the first leg and HND-BKK (or whatever other route you like) for the second leg. You can stop in Tokyo for as long as you like.

the trick is not to put the second segment in the returning flight under multi city otherwise it treats them as separate bookings.

Thanks Mattg and Jeffrey, now got it working I used the multicity with one departing and returning flight. But with both flights on the departing, it seems to work now..

Jeffrey, did you managed to book and ticketed successfully ?

No that is not correct.
You can't do stopover on AS CX awards for intra Asia trips.
Also, there is no Australia - Asia redemption on this award. Only Australia - HKG. If you do say SYD-HKG-TPE, it will be 2 different awards (SYD-HKG, HKG-TPE). Stopover only allowed on the North America awards via HKG.
