talking on how I took QF from 5th to 15th in just a year.

Matt

Skytrax? There are many different industry awards.

Did they not win some Domestic Airline of the year award just recently?

Given the grounding they were always going to drop in the rankings - I have no doubt QF will be back.

Some interesting quotes on the fleet in the QF v JQ debate
Since I became CEO we have taken delivery of 114 new aircraft, about one third of our fleet
More than 50% of those aircraft went to Qantas, and 75% of the capital expenditure
Our average fleet age is now the youngest it has been since privatisation - younger than the fleet of Cathay Pacific, Lufthansa, and the three major American airlines

Whilst I won't go into details I know of a number of major organisations that were directing travel to Virgin before the grounding, because of the disruptions - myself included - if I had an important meeting I wasnt risking it.

He is wrong on the fleet age BTW

QF 10.8
CX 10.4

Easy to compete with US carriers on age, different story when it comes to most of the airlines servicing Australia!

How many of those plane orders, such as the A380s etc, would have been placed before he became CEO???

This thread should be renamed "Qantas to cut 2800 jobs" as AJ live on ABC24 happened along time ago.

Unions say they will fight it and they reckon forced redundancies cannot be forced upon workers.

Mmmm I sense more problems for Qantas.

Someone able to manage an Australia's national carrier without mismanaging staff, Unions, passengers and shareholders for a start.

Let me guess, your Irish? :D

A lot of people say, he/she (of any organisation really) should go, but that's it. It's easy to be an armchair critic, anyone can do that...

Interesting. I was at the lunch .... And am not surprised that 2800 job losses is the only headline the Press can grab onto. To be honest there was nothing new in the speech, and the questions asked centered around the Emirates "alliance" which Joyce neatly deflected, despite the same question asked in a number of ways by different journos / guests!

Pretty sure you can make people redundant. Having had it done a couple of times over the years.

That man has to be the most incompetent CEO in Australian corporate history (Sol included!)

Hopefully QF's problems can be saved with a new CEO, like how TLS has recovered in the past two years.
