For those thinking that the charges are unsporting at airports in Australia for pick up

An airport in England is to start charging motorists to leave airline passengers in a "kiss and drop" zone outside its main terminal.

All drivers, including taxis, will have to fork out STG1 ($A2.07) for spending up to 10 minutes in the drop-off zone at Luton Airport, north of London.

Luton is the first airport in Britain to introduce such a charge.

The move comes after airport officials introduced a range of other charges for baggage trolleys, jumping security queues and the mandatory plastic bags required to carry small amounts of liquids on board as hand luggage.

yeah ( Priority Lane - London Luton Airport ) , why not. For GBP3 you can use the priority lane. Whether priority lanes are provided for those on business/1st tickets ( c.f. Sydney Express pass ) or for those prepared to pay directly, the principle is the same.

Seems a reasonable and fair idea to me

If you got to pay the 1GBP then I would just spend the whole 10 minutes there. I can't think of anyone who would take 10 minutes to drop off a passenger.

Just like all businesses the airports need to make a return on investment. This is just another way to cut cake. It's either this or landing fees go up to the airlines and you pay for it invisibly in your ticket. At least this way you can control the cost at your discretion...

Why, were you thinking of it?

You'd have to be going somewhere obscure on an ultra-LCC if you were going to use Luton in the first place.

And I thought Stansted was bad (and it still is).
