Sorry if I post this in the wrong forum, feel free to move if needed :)

I came across an Air Asia sale as I was browsing around and found these business class seats from KUL-PER so cheap I could just not let them pass. $200 per person one way. Didn't really care what it was like as we needed flights around that time and it gave us decent seats and 40kg baggage allowance. (yay! More shopping :D )

Well, I have to say it was a nice surprise. Check in away from the rest, which was way nicer and only 2 minutes in a queue. Boarded first and it was nice to sit down and take it easy while everyone else was still trying to get on the plane. The staff on board also treated us way better than I usually get when flying AirAsia. It helps sitting at the front of the plane.

Sorry folks, no champagne but we did get free water bottles!! We also got quite a nice doona and pillow. The seats were really nice (angle-flatbed) but I have to say that if you are on the taller side there will be problems as my husband discovered. Included was also one of their famous (or should I say infamous) air plane meals that is worse than cattle-class on most other airlines  But then again, the flight was merely 5 hours and one can survive without it. I did like that they asked us when we wanted it served rather than just throwing it out when they feel like. Meals have to be pre ordered and I opted for some Mac and cheese with meatballs, because I figured that no-one can fail that one! Either it wasn't too bad or I was just very hungry.
Another thing I liked was the bathroom. One bathroom, just for the passengers in our class and it was cleaned and tidied up after every visit.

Actually I am quite happy with what I got, especially for $200. I would never pay full price (around $900), thats for sure, but I would be happy to do this on a sale again. Way better than normal cattle class seats. One have to remember that it is after all a low cost airline but this is an alternative I would be happy to use more times.

$200 o/w seems very cheap for a D7 special, however the sale specials can represent good value for a flat bed alternative (minus all of the bells and whistles) to get into SE Asia.

A low-fare ticket is about $200 anyway so getting this one on a special is great value. I would never pay full price though, its not that good :D

Thanks for the trip report.

I flew KUL-SYD in Air Asia business class a few months ago, on the overnight flight. I thought the hard product was pretty good for a low-cost carrier. The bed was only angle-flat, but I was at least able to sleep for about half the flight. I would never be able to do that in economy.

The soft product left a lot to be desired. The service was attentive, but to only get one small hot meal in business for an 8 hour flight seemed pretty poor. The FA serving me was even a little embarrassed to charge me ~$5 when I asked for a drink with my meal. No IFE either. But for the price I paid, I was happy.

I think that Air Asia's Premium Flatbed is exactly the opposite of Jetstar "Business" on the 787. Jetstar has a great soft product but terrible hard product. So in future, if given a choice between the two, I would pick Air Asia for overnight flights and Jetstar for daylight flights.

Thanks for your review, I also used Air Asia Business Class, it is the only business class I have ever taken, due to cost, but fekt the product was worth what I paid.
