Air Pacific acquires almost-new Boeing 737-800

Air Pacific received an almost-new B738 this past week, for increasing capacity on NAN-SYD and AKL.

The aircraft features all leather seating in both J and Y classes. (Limited pictures available on Air Pacific's Facebook 'Like' page).

Does anybody have an Air Pacific B738 operated flight coming up anytime soon? Please tell us about it and take pictures!

Increase of frequency only I suspect, not capacity. Does 2 x 737 = 1 x 747? There are some angry papaya producers in Fiji now too because their product cannot be shipped to Australia in a 737. Fiji: Aircraft upgrade impacts exports

This 'young' one commenced operation with Air Berlin in June last year - so it's 16 months 'old'.

I think overall there will be more capacity on the SYD-NAN route. There'll be 14 flights weekly, 3 operated by the 744's I believe.

Yes you are right - but it depends if the current daily SYD flight is a 747 or not (it used to be). It seems the 767 operates 3 times a week at the moment.

The 747 has 458 seats. The 767 has 256 seats. The 737-800 has 162 seats (not sure about the new one).

Previous capacity was 7x458 = 3206
Current capacity is 4x458 + 3x256 = 2600
New capacity is 3x458 + 10x162 = 2994

Have bne-nan on 738 and nan-syd on 744 coming up next week, will try and take some pics (when not juggling minidoc).

1A/B booked reserved both flights. Legroom on 738 not great in row 1 but no recline good when child sitting on lap!

They’re trying to increase frequencies while also expanding to other markets, such as Hong Kong as they’re doing well with Chinese tour groups. So they’ve had to move their a/c around.

Unfortunately the fact they’re selling new planes so soon is a bit worrying for an upcoming alliance member. :-|

Not necessarily, with the financial woes in eu/us, it may have become surplus and was the most economic to get rid of. It may have been leased not owned anyway. I would suggest better to get rid of surplus and run remaining fleet efficiently.

Hi all

I have just had the misfortune of J in the "New 737" and all I can say is DO NOT Bother if this ex Air Berlin aircraft is on your route then Avoid at all cost even consider DJ! or even better Air NZ Via Auckland

The seats are some what old in J half the equipment doesnt work. Their is no Leg rests so cant even get into a good seat position to enjoy the flight. Oh and as for the food cough is the only word I can say, dried up pasta with rubber fish and soggy Calamari in a putrid white sauce all served with a High Class wine for J class, Gossip ............. Currently between $3.70 and $3,90 at dan Murphys online in Victoria. What the hell is Qantas and FJ doing???

Just booked award flights for family holiday in June: SYD - NAN Y in the 744 and NAN - SYD J on the "737-800 (Winglets)".

I searched and there are no options for direct NAN - SYD flights on the 744 in the week I am traveling. There is 1 X 744 SYD - NAN daily, and 2 X 737 NAN - SYD.

I love row 1 on the 744, so used a heap of points to book J - but ended up with row 1 on the 737 instead.

Looking on the bright side, if it's that bad in J, then imagine what 4+ hours in Y would be like...

Interesting as Row 1 on the 737-700 was great.

Also, found the food not too bad so not sure why Ansett had such a problem.
