I can't comment on the book itself because I haven't read it and have no desire to read it, but as a TA myself, what you need to be aware of is that hotels, cruise lines etc are beginning to claw back discounts these sort of schemes purport to offer you, as they have noticed alot of people claiming discounts they want to save for genuine TA's, and as such alot will only offer discounts to IATA Card holders, something you can't purchase, you have to be genuinely in the industry to hold.
I personally think these schemes are coming to the end of their lifespan, and sure, you could print a card saying your a AFF Travel Agent (or whatever) and some hotels might accept it, but the majority will be aware that you aren't a genuine travel agent and won't honour any agent rates quoted.
Alot of these schemes starts as MLM schemes, and then of course there are the type as indicated that are just an e-book and ID card.
I would certainly take the testimonials with a grain of salt, I can tell you as a well respected TA owner, even I have difficulty obtaining upgrades, so I can't see someone with a wanky pretend ID card is going to have any more luck given the pull I have with several carriers.
Personally, I think the best discount you're going to get on your travel is to save the $39.95 purchase price.
As I said, you may still obtain some discounts, but from the reputable cruise and hotel reps tell me, the end is nigh for these schemes.
