Hi all,

I fly LHR-SYD tomorrow on QF2 and I've done a bit more shopping than I anticipated.... I've been looking at QClub membership for a while and now could be a good time so I can have the extra luggage allowance (I'm on a sale economy ticket and can't upgrade). If I were to get the AFF Silver membership and register with QClub, do I have to wait for anything to be posted or would my benefits kick in immediately? I know AFF Silver gives you a group managed QC membership - does this slow things down? Would Gold allow me instant QC entry/benefits?

Hope someone can help! Thanks :)

Hi there,

Once you're an AFF GOLD member, you are able to take advantage of the Qantas Club discount immediately. (Note that this benefit is not available to Silver members. All the information can be found HERE.)

The process of joining up or renewing through our Qantas Club corporate scheme is outlined on this page. (It's only visible to GOLD members). Once you've sent us the completed form, we will phone it through for you ASAP. I believe that your account should then update immediately, but I can double-check to make sure that this is the case. If it's not instant, then I believe it would at most update within 24 to 48 hours.

I would phone Qantas now for you to double check that you would have Qantas Club access tomorrow night out of London, but unfortunately the Frequent Flyer Service Centre closed at 7pm. It will open again tomorrow morning at 7am (Sydney time) so I can check for you then.

To ensure the process is as quick as possible, please ensure you fill out the form correctly and include your credit card's CVC number on the form. (This is something that people often forget, and it means we need to contact them, slowing down the process.)

If you have any further questions, please send a private message to myself or admin.

Just spoke to QC Service in the UK - I'm told because I'm not flying from Aus, I'd need to show the physical card to prove that I have QC status at check in, and again to gain lounge access. sigh...

That's disappointing indeed, but if Qantas told you that then it's probably accurate. Generally, your Qantas Club status is printed on your boarding pass as soon as the membership comes into effect. However, it may well be the case that the staff in London need to see the physical card, particularly at the lounge as it's not operated by Qantas.

I hope you enjoy your flight home, and hope we can help you out in the future if you do decide to take out a Qantas Club membership. :)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

While not a great use. But if you're ancillary reason was for excess baggage i believe you can pre purchase additional baggage with points.
Again not a great use and you need to do before you leave for the airport but it gets you out of the immediate problem.
