Advice on coughet, Thailand

My experience (honeymoon) dates back 8 years.... We stayed 2klm north of Patong at a place called Thavorn Beach Village. It was very nice, isolated, but close enough to town when we wanted to go. Villa's go up the side o the mountain looking back to Patong and has its own beach. From memory there as more "things" to do south of Patong and the bigger resorts are there.

Next week we are going north to Khoa Lak to a place called Sarojin, after which we have 3 spare nights, and I have absolutely no idea where we are going, I was considering Patong, kinda turned off now. Bangkok is not my kind of holiday destination, so also thinking about HKG for some shopping, but the $AUD is not exactly strong at the moment!

Good luck and enjoy your first trip to Thailand, I am sure you will all enjoy it, no matter where you stay.

Thanks Jason. A friend/wife and 4yold have stayed at the Thavorn Beach Village three times now, and they really like it. However, have decided to stay in the Patong/Karon area for 8 nights at a resort close to the beach and then SIN or HKG for a couple of nights.

If you are thinking of going to HKG to shop, I don't think there has been good prices there for a long time, irrespective of the AUD.

Hong Kong has been my second home for the last 2 years... well it seems like it!! Usually once a month.

I was quite surprised to visit City Gate with the factory outlets and the pricing is very good. Much better than in town, but sadly a lot of the savings have now been eroded by the slumping AUD$.

I am also looking into the Karon area for something different after Khao Lak, if not, we will give Thavorn another go.

Cheers.

I just snagged $420 return (each) flights on JQ to HKT from PER for my parents, 'tis a present of sorts.

I'm now starting to look at where to stay, things to do, etc. They're going to be there for a week so happy to see if any people have suggestions that haven't already been mentioned in the previous posts in this thread e.g. are they still relevant?

Thanks!

There's a pretty extensive thread on coughet in the Thailand forum over at FT...you may find some guidance there.

I have stayed at Club Andamann Beach Resort in Patong for the last few years. Set on approx 15acres of lush gardens and you only have to stroll through to the beach etc. Far enough away from Bangla Rd if that is not your scene. I think it is really well situated. CM
