And the aircraft type(s) will be????

I suspect that the Trans-Tasman services will all be 737-800s, as would the additional PER-SIN flights on Tuesdays & Thursdays. SYD-CGK almost certainly A330s.

Can't believe I missed that!

Interesting to see that an A330 will be put on the BNE-AKL run at some point. Would love to be on that flight.

Aircraft types are listed further into the document and are as you suspected Mattg - maybe I am just cynical but this press release could have easily read:

Qantas PR said:
Today Qantas Airways announces that forward bookings for Australian domestic business and leisure demand over Dec-Jan is dead in the water, so we are throwing all those potentially idle B738s at New Zealand and using our otherwise idle A330 fleet to Auckland because their economy seems to be doing OK.

Surprised that CGK is popular at Christmas time.

Lots of expats in Jakarta wanting to travel home to Australia for Christmas and probably lots of Indonesians in Australia also wanting to travel back home during the longer break.

I wonder why they're flying more to Christchurch. It's a nice city, but sadly since the earthquake, there's not much happening. And QF would be competing with EK's bigger 777s too.
I'd rather see an A330 or more 737s fly to Queenstown (having just returned from there in March this year, and Christchurch last year).

First, there's a lot more happening in CHC than you think. You just have to know where it is now. And the extra services are BNE-CHC (and a one off SYD flight). EK don't fly that route so they aren't competing there.

If you land at CHC, there's more to see than just Christchurch city - like all of the South Island, (including the Queenstown ski fields if you are so inclined). Personally, I'd like to see HBA-DUD :)lol:) re-instated.

I mustn't have known then. :) The airforce museum is pretty good, I will admit. Fair enough re: EK comparison.

Oh, absolutely, the South Island is amazing but I recommend flying directly into Queenstown these days. A beautiful city!

Don't forget it's not all about Australians holidaying in NZ. There would surely be a reasonable Kiwi community in SE QLD with VFR ( visiting friends and relatives) travel in both directions. Not to mention a few NZ'ers holidaying in Queensland as well.

Odd to have extra flights to CGK when the MNL route is probably busier at Christmas time.

Admittedly much of the demand for Oz-MNL during December is northbound and southbound during mid to late January, but with the world leading call centre operations in MNL these days and lots of Oz clients there must be many more Australians working in Philippines.

Perhaps it's a reflection of the heavy competition from PR and 5J on the route along with numerous one stop airlines (CX, MH, the various AirAsias and SQ to name a few.)
