As per my previous threads I am just about (I think) to buy an ipod touch BUT with regards internet & email do I have to find an ISP & an email account & then pay monthly charges for this????????????
Also do I have to pay for "apps" they talk about.
I guess what I am asking is once I purchase it what extra charges am I up for?????????

Thanks for the help so far.

  • The iPod iTouch only uses Wifi (not mobile internet), so you should already have it.
  • The Internet & Email is your existing service.
  • There are plenty of free apps. Maybe not the best ones, but enough to be amusing and functional.
  • The music, podcasts, etc come out of your iTunes account, so there are paid options or just import your CD or MP3 for the no additional cost path.
How does that sound?

Thanks, but I am not to familiar with all this.
When you say I "should already have it", does that mean it is already in the device & I just need to be in an area with wifi access.
Also "is your existing service".......exactly what do you mean by this.

How do I find "free apps".........I am not too sure about what apps are??????.

I am just planning on downloading thru itunes from my own cd's. Is that free??

I don't want to by the touch & then find I am always up for paying extra for things...........if so how is payment made?????????

If you have your own wifi at your home, that is the wifi to use. No-one else is going to give/sell you wifi internet.

Your existing email service.

Search the web.

Other follow-up questions not answered. Really, is this serious.

Start by visiting the Apple website and downloading/installing iTunes - that will give you the music experience. The iTouch is just a portable version.

Yes, sorry to say I was serious & I did say I was not familiar with the techno stuff.

Hmm, i thought this was a forum about travel?

Wouldnt there be another forum more appropriate for your questions?

I posted the thread here under Communications & Internet.
As per my previous post "which mp 3 player to buy" I received lots of helpful advice.
My aim was to use the device while on vacation in Hawaii for internet, email & music.

Sorry to have troubled anyone.

Not a problem. I sent you a PM earlier, we can chat privately if you wish about the detailed technical stuff for your specific situation.

An iPod/iTouch is a great device when travelling. Add in some noise cancelling or issolating headphones and you will be sweet for the plane trips.

The iTouch can connect to airport terminal wifi internet services (that I have tried), but probably not worth it unless the wifi is free.

The upper models of the iTouch have a microphone built into the earpiece set. This works for skype call when you are in wifi range. It works on my home wifi, but I haven't tried skype while at an airport.

I prefer to think of this forum as one for people who are interested in travel/miles, but who may have other interests (which sometimes become topics for discussion).

The best bet is to check out the videos here, Apple - iTunes - Tutorials - Learn about all things iTunes.

When you’ve learnt all that, the videos here will help you with your iPod touch apps and setting up your email, Apple - iPhone - Learn how to use all the features of iPhone.

Also bear in mind that if you buy your iPod touch at an Apple store (locations here), they’ll be able to help you set up the device in store.
