I have two domestic Air NZ Flights next week and it looks like they are eligible for Velocity Points and Status Credits, they are in G & P Class. Is it possible to add my Velocity number to the booking online as they were booked before the Velocity partnership was announced or do I need to call the Air NZ contact centre or just present my card at the airport. I can't see anyway to do it online but someone might know a way. The Air NZ call centre is a bit busy at the moment due to the weather over there (hopefully it will be better on Thursday when I fly BNE-DUD)

Thanks

If you have any Velocity status then you'd want to get this done ASAP so as to select seats.

However, at the very least you should be able to get your number in to the booking at check-in.

Unfortunately I don't have status and the fares are grabaseat fares which don't allow advance seat selection at all.

I'm on a Air NZ flight next week. Is it better to do online check-in and select seats or just request good seats at the check-in desk. I have been reading that the upgrades are normally being taken by those getting seats last, and regardless of status it seems.

Will be flying over silver and flying back gold.

It's moot, but Velocity Gold can indeed pre-select seats on Air NZ flights (numbers and metal), even on seat only fares.

Air NZ don't have online check-in

There is no OLCI for AirNZ flights.

If your flights are international, then after you reach Gold, contact AirNZ and try to select seats. This facility should be available to going by this:

Ok. Thanks for that. I just figured I would be using the same online check-in I normally use. I guess it is a bit much to expect that much integration in the partnership now I think about it.

At least you'll be able to use Priority Check-in as a Velocity Silver on the way over.

I do have a couple of potentialy stupid questions. Given it is a DJ flight, is check-in with Virgin or direct with Air NZ ? And since I can't use the NZ lounge as Silver I will be hanging out at the Virgin lounge. How long before the flight would I have to leave the lounge before being stuck hanging out at the gate ?

Check in is with whichever carrier you're actually flying with (irrespective of whether it's a NZ or DJ code). Your reservation details should indicate which carrier you need to check in with.

If you're an annual The Lounge member, ISTR that you should have access to the Koru lounges.
EDIT: yes, you do have access to the Koru lounges if you are an annual member:

Just got off the phone to Air NZ, no problems adding Velocity number over the phone to the booking. Also despite the fact that grabaseat fares do not allow specific seat allocation the helpful agent was able to add a note for checkin of seating preference.

Do let us know if your miles and SCs come through? I did SYD-AKL return just over two weeks ago and still waiting...

Have you tried manually emailing your ITIN to the Velocity Team for a retro credit?

Yes. Did that a week ago and got the auto-reply email stating 4 to 12 weeks (or something like that) for partner miles to come through...

I'm mainly interested in the SCs. The fare base is supposed to provide 0.25 miles to Velocity but otherwise zip for Airpoints or StarAlliance. It will be interesting to see if the DJ / NZ alliance does deliver a little bit extra?

I too am waiting for my Air NZ flight CHC AKL, which I took on the first day of the alliance. Everything except the Points/Statuse credits has been seamless. Have put in a retro claim and also spoken to the Gold desk, to no avail!

Am hoping we are not going to have to wait 4 to 6 weeks every time!

My flight on standalone DJ MEL-SYD sector posted to my Airpoints account 2 days after the flight. Maybe things have improved. Also managed to check in 3 bags for free on the Saver fare without purchasing the allowance. The check in agent initially refused to check in my bags. Asked her whether NZ Gold has any free allowance she said no. Asked her whether Etihad Gold has any allowance she said no. But after a phone call she said her supervisor agreed with me but it didn't make any sense to her.

From my reading of the alliance rules - you got away with that one but shouldn't have. NZ status pax purchasing a DJ fare do not get any additional baggage entitlement beyond what the fare offers (and vice versa - DJ status pax do not get additional baggage allowances on a NZ fare).

EDIT: actually, EY Gold is entitled to 32kg checked luggage on DJ flights, so that's what would have gotten you your luggage.
