Hi Everyone, if I book a JASA with two segments (EG PER-MEL-SYD) can I add in a stopover so I take the MEL-SYD leg a few days later?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I often do this on ADL to CBR via SYD. Usually they won't charge anything for the change, buy sometimes they will just charge you the change fee. If your first call doesn't yield your desired result, call back again later.

Do you stopover or transit, big difference.

So there is a possibility? Mark what do you mean?

Jasa rules allow transits which are less than 24 hours, in fact you can often book am overnight stay in bne in my favorite one which is handy when you live in bne, a stopover is greater than 24 hours, afaik very few domestic fares allow this.

Some fares accessed by the ASA booking engine do allow for stopovers - however you cannot request such online.

It may be possible to re-route after booking with a stopover.

However, you need to look closely, those 'cheap' JASA's (which book into U class) often do not allow stopovers. e.g. Here's one ex Oz: (Bookings - Fare Types)
BusinessStopovers
  • C/D class - 2 stopovers permitted (additional charges and taxes may be payable).
  • J class - unlimited permitted (additional charges and taxes may be payable).
  • Stopovers in Australia permitted only at the international gateway.
  • Note: If this fare is combined with another fare the most restrictive stopover conditions apply.
Then again, here the rules for a U class JASA ex USA: (Bookings - Fare Types)
BusinessStopovers
  • 2 stopovers at no additional charge are permitted for entire journey.
  • Note: If this fare is combined with another fare the most restrictive cancellation conditions apply.

Booking Changes
  • Changes can be made by calling your local Qantas office.
  • Before / After Departure:
    • Date and re-routing changes permitted with no penalty.
    • Additional charges and taxes may apply, plus any fare difference.

I've booked a HNL/xSYD/DRW JASA which permits a stopver however you can't change it online as if you click on the 'change flights' button it automatically looks to change both as connecting flights so you would need to ring up and do that over the phone.

Our original connecting flight SYD/DRW in the evening now does not operate on that day so they rebooked us on the am flight which unfortunately departs about 8 hours prior to our arrival in SYD so guess they'll have to change it now.

Does anyone know if it's possible to book a stopover coming from Singapore?

ie SIN-xBNE-MEL JASA? (In U bucket and yes I know I have to call QF for these now...)

I'm actually looking at booking MEL-SIN-MEL but would like a BNE stop over on the way home. Looking at AU rules posted by serfty it looks like I can't do it ex AU? But what about ex SIN if i booked 2 x one way?

What about booking SIN-BNE-MEL,, then calling up later and trying to move MEL-BNE back a few days (where there is U availability?)

Edit I did find these links which say a stop over permitted, but doesn't mention fare bucket?

I would just call up & tell them that the rules say a stopover is allowed and you'd like to change your plans accordingly so you'd like SIN/BNE on (date) then BNE/MEL on (date). Just check first that there is 'U' class available on the flights and dates that you want.

Thanks... the problem is now that I can't book these things online I can't actually see the rules before booking...?

I need that stop over in Brisbane, so if this isn't going to work then I'll just book a cheap flight from BNE to MEL separately... but I don't want to get stuck with ending up in Melbourne without my stopover :) I guess worst comes to worst and I can't change the BNE-MEL leg, I could just no show for it, since I'd have to have my luggage and clear customs in BNE anyway right?

As your BNE/MEL flight is a QFd flight you would need to collect your bags in BNE to clear Customs (even if they are tagged SIN/BNE/MEL).

It may be better to tell them in SIN that you have had a last minute change of plans so could they only check you in as far as BNE only.
