We have Annual Multi Trip Travel Insurance. We'll be travelling late December to Canada and will probably do a couple of days of skiing during the trip. Skiing is not mentioned in the multi-trip policy. Does anyone know of somebody that offers an add-on ski insurance policy?

My ski hotel in Austria offered insurance over the phone. Maybe call your providers for a ski policy.

If you have flexibility, suggest canceling your annual policy, and go with Travel Insurance Direct. Just paid c$380 for an annual policy for the family with ski included.

I did look at that policy but it doesn't cover injuries resulting from skiing, just interruptions to the ski holiday, lift passes and damage to equipment.

I don't have the T&Cs in front of me - but I'm pretty sure you are covered (under the standard medical coverage).

What is excluded IIRC is "professional" participation (ie. instructing, patrolling, working as a liftie etc). Usually heliskiing is a standard exclusion as well.

I may be wrong - but pretty sure I satisfactorily checked it.

I've emailed a query to them them - will let you know.

In France you just add it on to the lift pass cost...I think 2 Euro a day.sorry don't know about the North American Resorts

Does that cover repatriation to Aus caused by ski injury/termination of the rest of a holiday? If it does, that is VFM!

Travel insurance direct has snow skiing included in their policies. Even though you already have a policy, perhaps you could consider a time-limited policy with them to cover the period you are skiing?

It's a French policy so alittle vague!!!

::: CARRÉ NEIGE ::: The n°1 skiing insurance policy :::

They seem to guarantee repatriation to Europe ,the rest of the world seems to be up to them

what it does do is when the helicopter lands next to you to medivac you there is no hassle as they know they will get paid, everyone else is at the mercy of their credit card!

I need to buy ski insurance for a trip to Canada next month.

My agent has recommended SureSave Travel Insurance, full region 1, 19 days is $250.

Has anyone got any experience with this policy or any other 'ski' policy?

I have a Travel Insurance Direct annual policy that doesn't cost that much more than what you are quoting, and includes some cover for skiing (on-piste only though)... Travel Insurance from $34: Travel Insurance Direct Australia

I had to claim for a ski trip in Australia last year when I injured my leg, and they refunded the days of the lift pass that I couldn't use. The process was pretty smooth.

(read the PDS to make sure this product is right for you ;)).

Travel Insurance fo skiing is a tricky one.

A lot depends on what you'll be doing and then you have to skirt around the conditions and definitions.

For example, whilst off-piste is easy to define in Europe (between the poles) in the US you can be off-piste whilst in the ski-resort boundary but not on a marked run.

Friend had a claim with TID a few years ago for an ACL injury and said they were great.

I tend to use ski-insurance.com.au, get a good price, covers skiing related items and also proceeds go to supporting Australian skiing athletes too.

Lovestotravel just got an interesting one recently, can't remember the name but he'll be along shortly I imagine. It appears to cover skiing on and off-piste. Costs a little more though than usual.

There's copious discussion about it at ski.com.au about insurance.

insure4less - the only insurance that I have seen, where offpiste and out of bounds is clearly defined and can be specifically included or excluded.
You also state when skiing starts and finishes within your trip itinerary. Your not paying for ski cover when not on snow.
Also easy to deal with, there's details on the progress of a $25k Out of Bounds serious accident claim (in Japan) currently, over on ski.com.au

edit: I think this may apply to the more general travel policies, that may have some sort of general "irresponsible behaviour" exclusions:
"My experience with TID was that while not explicitly excluding off piste, you are actually not covered which I found out only after scanning their forums and asking them specific questions." (quoted from ski.com.au)

I'm surprised that insure4less policy option is inclusive for offpiste & out of bounds.
Very risky & I have witnessed some dreadful incidents as a result of persons perceived invincibility.

Hopefully not too far OT:
Europe had an extremely high avalanche risk last winter.
This winter Hokkaido has had problems with glide cracks opening up (small ravines, maybe 3 metres or more deep). There's been two fatalities at Niseko this winter - people skiing into the cracks unseen. Another skier recently survived an avalanche - was buried & broke leg - on a nearby mountain to Niseko. Finally, when inquiring about a single expensive powder ski in the ski valet at Hilton, was told it belonged to a skier who had to get rescued from a back bowl at a cost of about $4k. The other ski was still out there buried in the powder.
