Hi,
I am travelling to the US next week. I have finally made it to QF Platinum last week and havent and will not receive my card and bag tags before leaving on monday.
Does anybody know if I need to show my Qantas platinum membership card to enter the first class lounge in LAX or BOS airports? Or will it show on my boarding pass and that will be enough?
I spoke to qantas earlier today and the consultant said I would need to show my card and there wouldn't be time for them to send it express post to Brisbane by monday!

Thanks in advance

Firstly congrats on hitting WP. Show your BP and take a print out of your statement showing your level. Explain that the card hasn't arrived yet.

This will allow them to check if they want and hopefully allow you entry. Take your Gold card with you, at the very least you'll get regular lounge access.

As long as your BP says Emerald, I have found that to be enough. I've done this quite a few times, and will be doing it tomorrow night at LAX. Will let u know if I get through once again...

Cheers
BF

Thanks a lot for the quick responses. My Gold card expires on 31st Dec too! So hopefully the printout and Bp will be enough.

One thing i've noticed though (When I went from PS to SG many years ago) is that the AA systems don't automatically update. If your BP prints out with Sapphire on it rather than Emerald, ask the agent to remove the FF number and re-add it. It seems to do the trick.

The AA Agents are usually excellent though so you should have no issue.

Opusman is 100% correct

QF and AA tickets all have your QFF status clearly imprinted.

You wouldn't require a physical card.

Legroom! Are you aware of FEBO? Stands for 'Front Even, Back Odd' and related to the order of meal service on board AA domestic flights. Even number flights they start the service from the front and odd from the back. Critical information if you want to get first crack at the meal choices :)

Actually for some legs you can pre-order your meal and just choose the seat you really want. And you get served first.

I was on a flight in the US recently and sitting in row 3. Because I had pre-ordered my meal I was served first. The people at the front were annoyed but as the FA advised them I'd ordered that meal so I was getting it before they were even going to be asked what they wanted.

wow! i didn't know!

For some reasons, I have not paid much attention to FEBO.

Maybe I'm not a fussy eater.

FWIW, I did preorder the meals but did not pay much notice whether I was served first or last (eyes glued to iPad !)

Prior to having OWE or OWS status SO had an Amex Platinum charge card which gave you access to Admirals Club. Trouble was when he applied for the card as we were building a house we didn't yet have a letter box & Amex application wouldn't accept a PO Box.

To cut a long story short the Plat charge card was returned to sender & the emergency replacement card was a generic grey looking Amex that didn't look like the regular iridescent Plat Charge card pictured in the lounge angels (dragons) manual.

I would always take all your cards overseas as the US are big on scanning the actual card as it tells them automatically what lounge you get access to eg Flagship vs Admirals Club. It's possible that by them scanning the card that it also facilitates the billing the cost of your lounge visit back to your airline.

On the recent AA flights we had I noticed in the F cabin they seem to take the card from the galley to the rear of F then start the meal service from the last rows of F then work their way back to the front.

I don't remember being served first because I'd pre-ordered however when placing the meal on my tray table they acknowledged that the meal I got was what I'd pre-ordered.

I just did some research on the pre-order - looks like it is not available on domestic flights? In that case FEBO is definitely a good thing to remember intra-USA (unless you want the banana with cereal or pasta!) :)

Pre order on most domestic flights has been available for nearly a year (ex ORD somewhat longer).

Before this introduction, FEBO was normally followed and my experiences in March indicated theirs was still the case after pre orders were taken into account.
