Promo seems a little weird to me. Potentially is targeting people who have fat expense accounts and might be able to get away with it.

Based on the example, prices are a little less than physically buying miles - although I can't recall if AA are still having their promos on point purchases or not.

Also this point in the T&C's is strange:
" Any subsequent changes to your flight(s), including flight cancellation or routing changes will not impact the posting of the purchased bonus miles to your account." - so it seems that you don't actually have to fly to have the bonus points post!

Looking at the FAQs, it appears that you're buying miles at 3c/mile, e.g.

$18/578 = 3.11c
$25/802 = 3.11c
$34/1121 = 3.03c
$75/2475 = 3.03c
$108/3589 = 3.01c

(excluding 7.5% excise tax).

If you've already bought the maximum number of miles at 2.5c/ea. I suppose it's only really worth it if you need to top up for an award, or are trying to get 1MM or 2MM quicker.

Having just read about a dozen of the posts on that thread, they really are giving the term "Whinging POM" a run for its money. "Whinging Yank" seems more like it.
