AA are offering a 20% bonus on points transfers from SPG until August 7.

Could be useful for anyone looking to transfer Amex points or alternatively can buy 20,000 Starpoints for USD$700 if looking for a top up.

At 2.3c per point it's more expensive than buying from AA at the moment, but for those who transfer from Amex it looks like a decent time.

Amex transfers to SPG at 2:1 so effectively 40,000 MR points = 30,000 Aadvantage miles.

Lower AA taxes easily wins over KrisFlyer but the biggest issue remains premium award availability ex-Australia.

Still worth some thought.

Do you mean on a 1:1 basis or are you also including the earn rate in your comparison, e.g. some of us can get 1.25 SQ vs .75 AA

In my case, with Amex Plat Edge credit card spending at major supermarkets, I am earning 3 Amex MR points per A$ spend, converting to SPG at 1:2 rate (1.5 SPG point per A$ spend) then laundering to AA at 20% bonus for 20K SPG results in 1.8 AA miles per A$ spend at major supermarkets. Note that Wish Card purchase at 5% discount through RACQ means that becomes 1.89 AA miles per A$ spend at supermarkets, Big W, Dan Murphy, Dick Smith, Caltex etc.

You can do the maths for comparison with SQ and other earning rates.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Amex MR points regardless of how they are earned.

Obviously not including direct linked cards to KrisFlyer.

I can do the maths and its 1.8 AA miles vs 3.0 SQ miles (0.6:1). While I value AA miles at more than SQ I think at that rate I'd still go SQ. With moving in 40K chunks out of MR = 20K + 5K SPG bonus + 20K bonus on top = 30K on top, i.e. 0.75AA : 1 SQ, yes I agree I'd go AA.

However you cany buy everything in supermarkets (though more than some think) for the rest where I can use Amex I'd use my WBC Krisflyer Amex and send to SQ, 1.25 SQ in my view trumps .75 AA.

But am sure others have different views.

That's fine IF you want to fly SQ and their partners. Not everyone has that goal.

With Wish Card and other "gift cards" purchased at Supermarkets, you can cover a lot more than just supermarket shopping in the 3:1 points earning. For me, it includes Petrol (Caltex), Electronics (Dick Smith), Hardware (Masters), Booze (BWS/Dan Murphys), iTunes etc. I only use Amex to purchase Wish Cards or directly at supermarkets. Otherwise it goes on 1:1 QF earning card so I can continue to play the QF upgrade game. So it Amex=>SPG=>AA for flight redemptions and Visa=>QF for upgrades that works well for me.

Now extended until end August

Re: AA transfer bonus on SPG Starpoints - 5000 AA+5000 SPG transfer bonus for 20000 p

I ended up pulling the trigger on a lot of MR points to SPG and then AA and now need to start booking some speculative AAward bookings. Sorry people, I'm stealing your availability (if I can find it myself!).

Re: AA transfer bonus on SPG Starpoints - 5000 AA+5000 SPG transfer bonus for 20000 p

Nice promo.

Transferring to AA seems like best use of SPG points, while keeping some in the account for good value P+P bookings.

Re: AA transfer bonus on SPG Starpoints - 5000 AA+5000 SPG transfer bonus for 20000 p

The question is...do I keep my 290K Ascent Premium MR points to convert at 1:1 to SQ/someone else OR do I launder through SPG for AA at 1:0.75 under this promotion?

Relevant facts: have approx. 650K SQ, 1.1M AA, 480K QF and 170K Altitude.

How you value SQ vs AA is really somewhat a personal choice but for me the lower surcharges have me sending the points via SPG to AA to leverage this promo.
