For the folks that can cope with whY, AA has some ridiculous transpacific fares ex-SYD with decent availability. Sale ends 23:59 12/1/17, so somewhat short notice.

QF SG/WP get to pick MCE seats with more legroom. This fare is also good for positioning for a SC run, as there is no min stay requirement.

Books into O class.

LAX $799.84
ATL/DTW/LAS/SLC $807.44

(Looked around for 5 minutes and those were the only cities I could find. And yes, that's Detroit, not Dallas.)

Code:
PERMITTED 22JAN 17 THROUGH 30MAR 17 OR 14APR 17 THROUGH
  22JUN 17 OR 09JUL 17 THROUGH 06SEP 17 OR 26SEP 17 THROUGH
30NOV 17 ON THE OUTBOUND TRANSPACIFIC SECTOR.

Yikes cheapest seen for long time.

While the days of cut-throat transpacific price competition could be over, there have been direct and indirect deals around the $800 mark as recently as November. Virgin, Delta and United were on sale in the aftermath of the US election (as was Qantas but more $100-200 more expensive), later followed by Fiji Airways.

AA's SYD-LAX flight was mostly about J, but there was at least one comment about Y (albeit in the early days of the service).

seems to run most of the year too which is a little surprising. shame it's not to DFW or NYC but beggar's can't be choosers.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

It's slightly interesting that the deals are to Delta strongholds (MSP, SLC, ATL, LAX, etc.)
