Called AA RTW desk to change my DONE5 routing.

I later realised they changed my JFK-SYD flight from QF to the AA codeshare without telling me. My routing changes did not affect this segment.

I can understand why they would want to do this, but to not even ask, is this acceptible:?:

Also is there any disadvantages of being on the AA codeshare instead of QF. I will be QFF gold by then.

Thanks

You won't be able to Upgrade to First using Points if that's your desire.

As far as QFF earnings go, it's exactly the same (Status, Cabin Bonus apply to AA flights at the same rates as QF flights in D class)

The only issue would be if you needed the flight as one of your 4 ~ flights....

Or if that was number four.

Wouldn't it have been better to book two separate flights - JFK-LAX/SFO on AA, then LAX/SFO-SYD on QF? That way you get your status credits for JFK-LAX/SFO crediting as F, rather than D?

Or were you out of sectors?

Most (all?) JFK-LAX/SFO flights are 3-class services so would be booked into D on AA flight number and earn the same as QF flight. To get 2-class services and hence booked into A class, would likely require routing via DFW or similar and most availability from New York via DFW departs from LGA and not JFK. So the longer flight time, AA domestic F vs QF Skybed and poor lounge facilities at LGA may not be an attractive option for all travellers.

I understand the 763 services between these cities to be two class (economy and first).

Yes, the 763, 757 & 738 transcontinentals are 2 class; the 762 offers 3 classes.

The 2 class services predominate to and from BOS, but are rare (but not unheard of) to and from JFK, if my memory serves me correctly.

All AA JFK-LAX services use 3 class 762s
There is one JFK-SFO service a day that is a 2 class 763 , all others are 3 class 762s.

As far as the original question goes, other than not counting as a QF flight ( which sounds irrelevent since the person will have attained Gold by this point and not need it ) and not being able to request a points upgrade , there is no real difference between using the AA and the QF flight numbers

Dave

Do other FF programs in OW have differing rules depending on flying AA or QF flight numbers?

Say if you are an RJ member do you get a status bonus on AA but not QF or something like that? One similar example would be the lack of status bonus on CX for QFF vs AAdvantage.

Yep, I am out of sectors, but i am doing some other US internal flights in F, eg ORD-SFO, to help get me QF Platinum.

In that case, I'll leave it be, thanks all

I have to ask the question. Why not just craft a DONE5 that'll do it for you? It's possible to get WP on a DONE4, so it must be easier on a DONE5 without the need for AA first YUP runs?

The US sectors are part of my DONE5 as follows

WAW-LHR-LAX-SCL-GIG(stop), LIM-MEX(stop)-ORD-SFO-DFW-JFK(stop)-SYD-AKL-SYD-NRT-LHR-WAW.

So you can see I took the SC way to get from MEX to JFK:p

The OP is out of sectors and not continents - a DONE5 gives you no more sectors to fly. In fact on some levels a DONE5 makes it harder to achieve WP than a DONE4:

- You have to fly at least 1 more long sector in J that might not earn as many SCs as a shorter F sector
- You have to visit 5 continents limiting both your flight options and your SC side runs

Most (all?) JFK-LAX/SFO flights are 3-class services...

You could always have a look to see what equipment is doing non-stop transcons out of EWR. Maybe you'll find a non-stop 738 service with a two-class cabin?

There is 1 flight from EWR-LAX at 19:30 , arriving 22:55. Although the 3 class 762 business class isnt as good as the 763 I would definitely take the 50" pitch 762 seating and in flight internet over the 737 1st class. Have to be extremely desperate for 40 Status Credits to make it worth considering

And use an eVIP to ugrade to F on a 3-class and hope QF mis-posts it as F anyway.

That is a v uncommon site these days; it used to be normal for upgrades to A class to post as 1st but they seem to have fixed it

Wouldn't seem the best use of a systemwide upgrade for a 5 hr flight though

Its good that AA still miss-posts some QF fare ;)

It would be better than letting an eVIP expire at the end of Feb
