Will be leaving from MSY on a QF flight number/AA metal to DFW, where after 4 hour transit will board QF8 home.

Travelling with Mrs & 2 juniors (3 and 6 yo), however notice that on both the QF and AA websites they indicate that Plat + 1 guest is the limit for lounges.

I know there can be some leniency regarding kids, but what got me worried was on the AA site for OW Emerald they specify 1 guest, however for AC members etc they talk about guests and/or immediate family (being spouse and skids).

Does anyone have any recent experience travelling the US with family in tow and taking them all to the lounge?

I am under the impression that DFW will be terminal D (Int terminal?) which has as QF associated lounge and an AC lounge. Any recommendations on which will be better? I am happy to try both and report back.

Unfortunately, I don't believe MSY has any oneworld lounges, let alone an Admirals Club.

At DFW, I would think that the four of you should be okay; however, if there's any issue, a USD30 one day pass is probably money well spent for four hours.

They're now $50 and only available to those 18+:

The Admirals Club One-Day Pass is a great way for anyone to experience the many Admirals Club amenities. The day pass is available to anyone* 18 or older and can be purchased online or, at our convenient Self-Service Check-In machines or in an Admirals Club lounge. The cost is just $50* per visitor

Just checked and it appears you are correct on the no lounge at MSY. Looks like we could be going "old school" and travelling sans lounge access. How will I cope!!

I had no issues taking my wife and three kids into the QF (BNE, SYD) and admirals lounges (LAX, JFK) late last year.

No probs here with wife +1 kid last last year at multiple AA/QF lounges.
I'm a firm believer that a pleasant attitude and a warm smile goes a long way.

And if you don't have checked luggage you can enter the lounge after your trip as well.

Sequel, I can confirm that their is no Admirals club in MSY. I have in the past transited through LAX with Mrs and 3 kids and both in bound and out bound had access to the QP. At the time I was only Qantas Club member. I would be surprised if they don't let you in. For what its worth whenever I have travelled with the family, I have always approched the desk on my own and expalined the situation and have never been turned away. good luck.

I can also confirm that there is no lounge at MSY. The QF lounge at DFW becomes quite crowded near departure time. I suggest that you arrive early, particularly if you want a shower.

I have never had a problem in the US with SHMBO and the apprentice SHMBO, including the Admirals Club and Flagship Lounges. in fact one of the better countries to have the family in tow as guests

IMHO as you have 2 children either chose the kid you like most and just leave one outside.

Generally the lounge angels don't have probs with kids as long as they are behaved.

Thanks for all the replies.

We have never had a problem before, however they have always been QF lounges (BNE, SYD, SIN, BKK) so with DFW being an associated lounge, and then the AA site making the distinction for AC members with direct family and OWE 1 guest, thought I better just check so that my expectations are realistic.

I guess the OWS/OWE access is just the standard definition they use.

Just traveled in the US with partner and 2 kids. I am plat, my partner is gold. Transiting LAX on the way in, I wasn't able to take the family into the Flagship lounge in T4 - the lady who checked us in downstairs gave me the magic card, but the people at the desk inside the lounge turned us back, so we hung out in the AC. We were all allowed into the first lounge at TBIT when we were flying back to Aust (and also into the QF first lounge in Sydney when we left, which I wasn't necessarily expecting).

Just out of interest how old are the children, this may influence their decision to let you all into the Flagship Lounge

the apprentice SHMBO is still only a toddler, guess that they must have an unofficial cut off point somewhere in their thinking.
