I have been to the Smithsonian Museums in Washington DC, and the Kennedy Space Centre in near Orlando.

i enjoyed both experiences immensely.

Just wondering, from those who have been, is there much more to be seen, mainly about the Apollo Programme in Houston or Huntsville ?

Would you go to one, the other, both or neither ?

TIA

Assuming this virus outbreak is sorted out by October, I'm planning on going then.

It's quite some time since I was at KSC (24 years), and the displays have changed dramatically.

My plan for October is to see...
1. Endeavour in LA.
2. XB-70 at the USAF museum in Dayton, Ohio
3. Enterprise in NYC
4. Discovery at the Smithsonian, Dulles
5. Atlantis at KSC (and Saturn 5)
6. Mission control (and Saturn 5) at Houston.

To be honest, I’d put Huntsville towards the middle to bottom of any list. JohnM has already pointed to my trip report on Huntsville. The highlight was undoubtedly the Saturn V and associated exhibits but the rest was very ordinary compared to the Smithsonian. Poorly curated.

If you have had enough Saturn V at KSC do Houston rather than Huntsville, unless you were really into military hardware. Huntsville is more about rocketry than Apollo.

Thanks RF. I am reading your fascinating TR now.

I get the feeling that Alabama is a bit of a let down. I might put Houston back on the list - but it will need to be reasonably compelling now.

Done both NASA's and both Smithsonians (city and Dulles) about 10 years back now...things may be different.
No shuttles and not as many missions or launches now.
I was in Orlando for the 2nd last shuttle launch but it was scrubbed.
I enjoyed both of them.

Houston has Mission Control...you see the famous room.
There is a Saturn V and a museum part and a few memorials.
Also they have a room where they train astronauts for upcoming missions, you can (or could) look through the glass and watch them training on mock ups of the shuttle or satellite etc.
Also I had to have a spaceburger at the McDonalds with the astronaut on top.
TBH this was the only reason I went to Houston and was the only thing I saw there.
Probably less crowded than Kennedy as well.

I will be specifically going to Houston in September for the 'Space' things.
