Am feeling a little sad today as my passport got the chop and I put in the renewal form. 145 different stamps/visas (Multiple entries into many countries) and only 1 page left. I am going to miss knowing all the details off by heart, and now will actually need to look at it before filling out arrival/departure cards.

Wonder how how long before I memorize the new one...

I've got a similar passport # and it will end up getting the chop well before expiry due to the 6 month rule and a few trips piling up from August into Jan. Will be sad to see her go....

I got my new passport in January and still haven't learnt the number. Have my next overseas trip in May so still time.

I too miss my M passport.

Said goodbye to mine a few years ago. Still can't remember the new one yet!

Mine is special because it only has two numbers (repeated). 17 months to go. Sigh.

I have had the same passport for a few years and can not remember the new one..

Accidentally started putting the old number on my first trip with new passport

Mine expires May next year, will closely be looking at requirements 3 months/6 month.

Mine, also commencing with M, had almost two years left on it. I had to get another as it was almost full and would not have fitted the stamps for two upcoming Japan visits :(.
Very sad as I also knew the details off by heart.

Ditto....I had to replace my M passport last year 18 months early as it was full...the new number is PE....I can't remember. The new passport however should last the distance as I got a 64 page replacement :)

The people I spend the most time with don't care. They generally have a name tag that says something like "Customer Service Manager" or "Border Protection" ;)

My passport has another 3 years before it expires but think it is time I go a new passport as this one is causing too much hassle. I got the extended version and only just past halfway. Won't be going for extended version this time. I will certainly miss E*******.

I will memorise the new number as soon as I see it. Happens all the time.

P.S. I am assuming I can transfer my unused ESTA over to new passport?

No. New passport means you have to apply for a new ESTA. They are only valid for 2 years anyway.

New passport means new ESTA, but a multi entry visa can usually be kept, either by showing both passports or asking for a new label in the new booklet (this is about as much effort as getting a new one).

I am going to be devastated when current passport is no more - last 5 digits are all the same - such a perfect number.

Recently had to say good bye to my old passport. Was a little upsetting watching them cut up my old one. All those good memories and fun times which it brought.
My nice new shiny one needs to get some stamps into it pronto.

What, cant you keep the old ones any more? I have a stash of them, the last one had half the front cover cut off.

In my experience they tend to chop the corners off the cover. Pretty upsetting watching that as my grandpa paid for my first passport as he was determined that I should experience the world.

No, you need a new ESTA - I had to get a new one a few months ago and it is not valid past my May 2018 Expiry.

Not only do you need a new ESTA, but you also need to be manually processed.

You can only use the automated machines if you have an ePassport on an ESTA that you have entered the country with previously.

My last passport before my current, an L series, had part of the front cover chopped off. This corresponded to the control section on the details page at the bottom (with the <<< symbols and so on). My current passport in an N series which won't expire for another five years at least. Still got quite a bit of filling to be done!

My father, mother and soon sister have just had / will have to have their passports renewed. Not sure how the old passports were treated. The new passports in the P series appear to have an additional character in the passport number.
