Hi all
I wanted to share a recent positive experience with you.
We just got back from a 10 day holiday in Bangkok. I purchased tickets for 3 adults (me, my wife and my mum) and our 1 child at a pretty good discount deal from their website (approx 2K per ticket) to travel both sectors on World Traveller Plus (that's premium economy to you and me).
The outbound flight was pretty average. The extra legroom is definitely the most attractive feature of this class.
When it came to our inbound flight, we used the online check in facility and I was able to select seats for myself, my wife and our child but NOT for my mum. Her booking reference would show the flight as being "cancelled". To be honest, I suspected at this point she was in for an upgrade but without wanting to get her hopes up, I simply assured her that these glitches happen and not to worry, the flight was still scheduled.
Got to Bangkok airport and checked in using Business Class priority line and sure enough, my mum got her comp upgrade to business class and on the upper deck too. Now we were very happy about this as you can imagine. She's getting on a bit and as the flight back is the red eye, I was very pleased that she would make use of the flat bed. As for us younger folk, we still had the extra space supplied in the PE class.
So, after spending time in the lounge (QF/BA share) we headed off to board the flight. Going through the last security check just prior to boarding and after waving bye bye to Mum, the BA crew member took my son's passport aside and told us to wait. A couple of minutes later and we were the proud recipients of our new business class boarding passes.
In short, the 4 of us were effectively comp upgraded from PE to Business Class. I'm sure the flight was heavily overbooked but I'm wondering if anyone here experienced an en masse upgrade of this nature?
My hat goes off to BA in this instance. I know they get a bad rap right now due to extensive cost cutting exercises but they certainly looked after us and ensured that we'll be looking at this flight again with them in future.
