question. my wife and i have a 1st class bookings in may2013 syd to london. we had to stop over in singapore for 2 nights to so wecould continue onto london (via hong kong) in 1st (then onto edinburgh) . wewould prefer to fly syd/dubai/london. this would give us 2 extra days inscotland (we think).

we also return via Singapore where have another 2 nights stay and then ontosyd. we need to on the ground for business conference call on a wedn. hence 2days in sing. if we flew london/dubai/syd. we would be back in oz on a wedn forthe conference call and save 4 nights in hotel bills.

should we ring qantas and ask for this or should we wait and see what happens??

any suggestions would be grateful

regards

Is this a paid booking? Once the schedules are announced QF will start contact impacted pax - in your case I expect that they will be very happy to change you to straight through. If you had say prepaid hotel in SIN and could "force" them to put you onto BA SIN-SYD then it would be a harder conversation. As it stands I think they will be happy to talk to you. I don't however think that calling them now will achieve anything other than stress for you as they wont be able to answer any questions.

My advice would be to sit tight, keep an eye on the forums and ruminate on what you can do with those extra days in Scawtland (buying extra clothes to keep warm might be a start ;))

Qantas have said they will contact affected customers in due course, and for those that wish to transit Singapore, there will be options available:

12. If I am a Qantas customer flying internationally from April 2013 onwards, what does this mean for my travel?
If you are flying to North or South America, South Africa, Japan, Bangkok, as well as New Zealand, The Philippines, Jakarta, Hawaii, China or other Qantas codeshare destinations you are not affected at all by these announcements.

If you are flying to Singapore or Hong Kong, your flights may have a different departure and arrival time however you will still travel on the same day. We will advise you directly of any time changes to your itinerary.

If you are travelling to the UK or Europe from April 2013, your flight will operate via Dubai and then onward to your destination, subject to regulatory approval.
Options will also be available for customers who would still like to travel via Singapore or Hong Kong.

13. I have a flight booked after April 2013 for travel to London - what happens to my booking?

Your travel to London will remain confirmed. Qantas will contact you to discuss your choice of transit options.

With the stopovers, the booking is Oz-sin-LHR and vv.

Qantas have to protect you each way between LHR & SIN.

But as others have indicated you need to wait until the changes get ratified/confirmed.

As I read the OP the booking is SYD-SIN-xHKG-xLHR-EDI-???-LHR-SIN-SYD. The HKG-LHR leg cannot be with Qantas. I can't see them protecting that or offering any change. the return might be different. I think you'll be stuck with your outbound flights but most likely no F to SIN. Maybe F SYD-HKG is an option to consider. They might change the return to go via DXB on request.

I would suggest working out the options you want and waiting for them to call you.

I'd personly be proactive and call QF as soon as the EK tieup is confirmed. I guess that they will honour original bookings if thats what you want (move onto other carrier obviously) or change you onto DXB services or a combination of either or...

Whenever QF have changed bookings on me I've found that they are really flexible, provided you ask.
