ADL - SYD (QF metal - QF flight number)
SYD - HND (QF metal - QF flight number)
HND - SIN (JL metal - QF flight number)
SIN - HEL (AY metal - QF flight number)
HEL - SIN (AY metal - QF flight number)
SIN - BNE (QF metal - QF flight number)
BNE - ADL (QF metal - QF flight number)
approx Aud$10374 with 49600 QF Fpoints and 810 QF SC ($12.81 per QF SC) - granted its an expensive one.
OK, this is off the planet expensive, but lets say, someone had the money, and the time, and wanted to do it...
Has any colleague on here, done something similar ie gone from Au up to visit Japan, then across to SIN and then to Europe and back to Aust, all on the same itinerary/PNR.
All above is on the QF online booking website, ie, without the orange error message.

you will get the same amount of SCs if you book the AY flight numbers on SIN HEL and HEL SIN but save about 5k in dollars...

my ticket in JAN goes
OSL-HEL AY flight number
HEL-HKG AY flight number
HKG-SYD QF flight number
SYD-HBA QF flight number
HBA-SYD QF flight number
SYD-HKG QF flight number
HKG-HEL AY flight number
HEL-OSL AY flight number

and I'm not paying anywhere near 10k... you can actually get quite creative ith the routing but I'm not allowed to do those anymore as we've got an infant now, as example my ticket this year was

AMS-LHR
LHR-HKG
HKG-BKK
BKK-SYD
SYD-BNE
BNE-TSV
TSV-BNE
BNE-SYD
SYD-BKK
BKK-SIN
SIN-LHR
LHR-AMS

Thanks for that OzMille.
Now that is a long trip.
TomVexville, its a bucket list item for me, maybe before I do stop flying in my 70s, I will give that one trip a try. If QF still flies at that future point.
Have to avoid the US, or I might just fall to bits, not knowing how to answer US C&BS questions.
Spongebob, question was (*has anyone done something like that/something like it*).
OzMille has done even longer than what I had mentioned above.

I would be saving the money, and for an itinerary like that I would almost suggest using a travel agent.

The Qantas booking engine is better than it was even a year ago but when you introduce QF flight numbers operated by other airlines then the price goes up quiet a bit.

I definitely use a TA

Ok, not going to HEL, but we're doing this over the Xmas break... pretty sure I could've squeezed in a UK or Euro side trip for not much more.

BNE-SYD QF J
SYD-SIN BA F
SIN-BKK CX J
BKK-HND JL J
HND-SIN JL J
SIN-SYD BA F
SYD-BNE QF J

All J flights bar QF are lie flat.. earns 530SC @ $9.43/SC. FWIW. it's a holiday - not a SC run.

Im doing;

BNE-HKG QF J
HKG-HEL AY J
HEL-ZRH AY J
ZRH-HEL AY J
HEL-SIN AY J
SIN-BNE QF J

HEL-ZRH not lie flat but only 2 hour flight earns 600SC @ $9.08/SC - also a holiday but happy with the SC earn. Could add another couple of hundred SC earn by chucking in some European J flights for way less than $5K.

Should have mentioned - I booked 10 days ago.

As posted earlier in the Cheap International Airfares board, I booked the following itinerary through Expedia on a JAL-issued ticket:

SYD-HND (QF J)
NRT-HEL (AY J with JL code)
HEL-TXL (AY J with JL code)
TXL-HEL (AY J with JL code)
HEL-NRT (AY J with JL code)
HND-SYD (QF J)

560SC @ $9.7/SC. The ticket conditions would've allowed me to easily add SCs by routing via SIN and departing from another Australian capital city, but this is not status run but rather a family trip (including a 4-year old) so kept it as simple as possible.

AustraliaPoochie - I think you are focussing too much on keeping everything on QF codes. The sectors from Asia to HEL give the same SCs whether its a QF, AY or JL code - for the routings/airlines discussed here, it's only the Australia to Asia sector that needs to have a QF code for SC maximisation.

I'm a little bemused by the point of this thread but I would agree that AY (metal/code) SC earn is pretty generous (relative to the other OW carriers) on asia-europe. eg one can easily get 600 SC on a return AY sale fare to europe , and the A350 J product is much much MUCH better than what the 340's give (the sooner they are gone the better!).

I'd do AY to europe anyday specially with a nice connection through HKG for a break and/or CX lounge run :)

I miss creative routings. Apparently multiple consecutive sectors are not good for the infant/baby.

Need to find a way to continue with creative routings.

Wait till baby is older, ((OR)) even now, introduce tot to flying, enrol them a member of the QFF/QP and see them get to SG by the time they get to 20, and maybe LTS/LTG by the time they get to 30!!!
I was on a flight back from SYD - ADL which is a 1hr45mins flight, and was in 29F, up ahead was a baby, would be under 12 months, and didn't even cry!
Take off or landing or in flight.
And I have also had toddlers or kids who kept screaming no, no, no, in the QF/EK lounge!
Edit: >>> forget the 810 SC runs, after my latest trip to NZ, that will my aim from now.
Once or twice a year, NZ here I come.
Using the NZ new Smartgate system is so easy... no more far off European trips for this pooch.
