Here's my dilemma:-

  • My status re-assessment/loyalty bonus reset is due on 1st of August.
  • I have already requalified for WP
  • I have no planned business or leisure travel planned for June/July.
  • I have a DSC offer, however i'm unable to travel till this Saturday due to business/personal commitments.

8,000 points/60 SC's is nice to have, but I can't find any cheap fares to justify the SC's/points, what should i do?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Don't bother. 8000 points is worth a pittance unless you need that 8K to tip you over an award threshold. Guessing you aren't close to P1?

Any JASA would cost 20,000pts minimum... so if no reason to travel, let em go.
Afterall the bonus bumping from 5000 to 8000 provided recompense to those who at least achieved them.

I'm not close to getting P1 and i'm 3,000 SC's short of LTG. I agree with your comments, I can't find the value in spending $'s or points to chase 60SC's/8,000 points.

Though speaking to my manager, he may have some work lined up for me in Melbourne, so I may get the SC's after all....

Wise choice - me thinks.

If you were 60SC short of WP.....then I would say J A S A is your friend.

I was 5 SCc short of a loyalty bonus at the end of March and couldn't see any value in chasing it. I was still ahead of the old system as I had already received 3 loyalty bonuses.

I was 15 SCs short of my last loyalty bonus before 31 May and I spent ~$194 to travel BNE-ROK return on 30 May and earn double SCs and 10,000 QFF points including loyalty bonus and mimimum flight guarantee.

To me the 10,000 QFF points are worth ~$250 and if one includes the food and drink and a lazy afternoon then I consider it good value. A shame the 8,000 QFF points have not posted yet and I am waiting for manual intervention....

Alternatively, spending less time travelling, a Melbourne- Brisbane return ($169x2) will yield:-
15x2x2=60 SC, and 1000x2x2+8000=12,000 points, which is (spending) 2.8c/ point, slightly lower return.

Have a good weekend SC run.

Have you overstated the points earnt here? Are they doubled as well?

I think you should not bother; but for many of us, it's a hobby of exercise so that:-

taking advantage of current QAN Link sale and your double status bonus, a trip of Brisbane-Newcastle or Mackay, etc is $59. Two return trip, one of which with a comfort seat, then, for the price of around $59x2+$(59+50)x2=~$340, gives you:-
10x(2+1)x2=60 SC, and 1000x(2+1)x2+8000=14,000 points. That's about (spending) 2.5c for each point.

Have a good weekend SC run.

I'm going to chime in as well. Noted the points are not doubled.

Also the qantas link sale dates that I saw, not on the routes mentioned here, don't start until August some time so the double SC wouldn't apply. However, assuming they did both of those routes earn 10SC each way and 20SC with a comfort seat. So the earn would be (10x2 + 20x2)x2=120SC, if DSC were applicable.

If doing a flight this Saturday a comfort would only be required in one direction.
