Booked in family of 4 SYD-HKG in Y red eye flight to make it easier for the kids sleep on board . Will be landing at HKG around 5AM in the morning .

Thinking about what is the best option for us beside book in another night for previous day at the hotel , for hotel early check in time what hotel is best to go with . otherwise normal 2-3 pm hotel check in work out to be like almost 10 hours with no where to go . is there any facility in HKG airport before or after customer that accommodate us with some where to rest , i have been to Plaza Premium Arrival lounge in HKG and they have shower ect but only limit at 2 hours .

Thanks everyone .

To be honest, in that situation even if I had some arrival lounge access, I wouldn't hesitate to book the hotel for the night before and just check-in when you arrive (make sure the hotel knows the time of your arrival). Obviously more expense, but the kids will be ratty, its likely to be warm to hot before noon and its a really long time for a bad start to your holiday (I assume).

Book the room, shower and nap if needs be then start after lunch refreshed.

(BTW, you know about the Airport Express train's free shuttle bus to major hotels from Kowloon or Central stations? )

Thinking about somewhere to rest at HKG after a long flight as Airport Express will take another hour but it look like hotel for one extra night is our best option .

Thanks for the tips didn't know about free shuttle bus to hotels , will check this out when we closer to travel date .

Have you actually asked the hotel if there is any chance of an early check in? They are quite family oriented, so you may be lucky. Otherwise, yes booking the night before is your only option.

We won't be travel until October so we haven't booked in any hotel yet . early check in request is a great ideas i will check with the hotel before book in an extra night

Can't think of any practical rest option once you get off the plane, sorry. There is the CX arrivals lounge, but it would only be available if you were flying J (no) or had status with OneWorld (Qantas, Cathay, AA etc) and anyway, not really family friendly. So, sorry again, my suggestion would again be to 'keep moving' - the train itself is pretty calm once you are on it.

Come back with more questions nearer the time, but note that the hotels covered by the four Airport Express Shuttle Busses do change from time to time (ie hotels are dropped off or added) and the web site may not be up to date. Check the routes / hotels covered at the bus area at Kowloon or Central (or even e-mail them beforehand). And a final early warning. The shuttle busses also run the route for pick-ups and you can get on them to take you to the rail stations, too. But unlike the delivery runs, which go regularly, the pick-up runs can get notoriously behind schedule. If you are catching them to the stations, leave plenty of time to allow for delays.

And you know you can check-in for your return flight any time of day at Central or Kowloon stations? So if your return flight is, say, 11pm, and you have to check out of your hotel at 12:00 noon, you can go to the station, check in your luggage etc at the airline counters there and then be free for the rest of the day (except, I suppose with your carry-on). Then go back to the station when you need to finally travel out to the airport to catch your plane.

Ah ... I didn't realise that you hadn't booked the hotel yet. That makes planning easier and yes, ask around about early check-ins. A couple of times with early arrivals I have booked the night before, fronted at 6am and got checked in and they didn't charge me for the prior night!!

In April, I arrived at my hotel at 0700 and apologised for arriving so early. My room was ready and I was in, but I was prepared to just leave the bag and go out, but then I was not travelling with children. It may depend on how many nights you actually plan on being there, I was staying for six nights.

Give us some more details and we may be able to make suggestions

The HKG flight also often arrives before 5am and if you clear quickly as you should at that hour it can be a decent wait for the Airport Express (which starts at 5.50am), particularly with grumpy kids

At that time (and with four people) I'd probably be leaning more towards a taxi to hotel, particularly if Kowloon side - it won't be much more than the 4-person group fare and more convenient than waiting and then transferring to a bus

Get a taxi, they're cheap but 4 pax with luggage will probably need 2, but still cheap. Arrive at your hotel and dump your bags, go and have breakfast and enjoy Hong Kong. You're brave to do that with kids, but hey, first world problems (I'd just pay for a night before in said hotel, even one room). Hong Kong is awesome and early mornings are a good time because no ones around. I like watching the place wake up (which is rather late compared to Australia)

I booked 1 night at the Dorsett (changed names since) a while back and turned up before 10:00am and room was ready and allowed to check-in.

Some Asian hotels have "hospitality rooms" where if you can't check in, you can at least go to have a shower and freshen up and leave the bags. Check with the individual hotel.

I've had the Conrad check me in at 8am.. if no room they reportedly let you use the gym to shower and then leave luggage with concierge. Suspect most of the hotels are similar
