Im going to end up 50 sc short of plat this year :( Are there any known ways of economically accruing SC in Europe?

My anniversary is at the end of Oct and I have booked flights on the 5th Nov and 12th Nov that would have taken me over 1400 sc. Will qf be nice (I know they dont have any obligation whatsoever) and bump me to plat or will I have to start again?

You'll have to start again if it's not a renewal (ie obtaining). Where in Europe? BA domestic can be cheap in J I believe.

I will be around France and London, but have to travel to EE for a week.

If you are already plat, then you may be lucky - give them a call.

if you're only gold, then they will not bump you up.

Also, I see your reference to being in Europe, but I assume you already have the minimum required 4 flights on QF metal in your membership year, as without this, they are unlikely to "comp" you, even if you are already plat from last year.

good luck.

I am heading to Europe for holidays but as a result miss 4 work flights that would have bumped me from gold to plat. I guess there is a cost to everything :) I would have made most of my 1350 SC all Y work flights (a few J in there also)

Will have to see if its worth it trying to find some BA flights.

Might be easier to fit a domestic leg before you go. A quick JASA would put you over the top.

For 50 SC it's definitely worth it.

Someone will know more than me... But it's possible to book BA Y and then "buy" an upgrade to J although I don't know if this includes SCs. I did it years ago for a LGW-IBZ (i know... I know....) and it was 60 pounds for 40SC. Not sure if it should have posted that way though.

Otherwise, if you can fit it in while you're in Australia, a JASA or multi-city flexi will do it. I routinely travel SYD-ROK via BNE on a flexisaver and it's about $550 for 80SC. Not amazing value, but very easily done.

If you upgrade your BA ticket using Manage My Booking then you will get the points/SCs for the higher class. Paid upgrades done at check in, in the lounge or at T5 only qualify if the BA staff re-issues the ticket, rather than just re-printing a BP.

Otherwise as others have said, BA domestics can be good value. Also check AB if you're near Germany, though with no intra-EU J it will take more flights.

Thank you Red Roo. I will ensure my flights are all booked by my admin before I send the email. We usually have our flights booked a month or two ahead.

Look for flights from LGW on BA.

British Airways - Upgrade to Club Europe#

If you do so online before you go, you will get the business class status credits. Note the cheap upgrades are NOT available from Heathrow.

Cheers, will do.

OP, it would be irresponsible for a family/friend back in Australia doing a very simple, quick, cheap return flight in Australia under your frequent flyer number...

I got sale y fare tickets with BA to Copenhagen return for 30SC so it's more than possible to do it whilst in Europe.

Ex LGA generally has the best fares for BA.
Some cheapish domestic sectors ex LGW book into I class ... Treated as business.

BA often have club Europe sale fares ex LGW too.

I cam confirm the business class SC's posting for upgrading online before flying. I can also state that I paid £79 for an upgrade from LHR-BCN 12 months ago, which I would class as cheap. It's not an airline or alliance I really so I have limited knowledge; just wanted to offer a data point.

What law would they be breaking that makes it illegal (as opposed to being against the terms and conditions)?

Hint: None!

Well there is the general question of the friend pretending to be someone else. But there is a federal law that makes it illegal to travel under someone else's name/identity. There was a thread posted about this law in the News section of AFF.
