I know this section is for QF, however standing at HKG Terminal 2 yesterday, 3K noted everywhere, except at the check-in counter where there is a 100% QF A4 security document advertising 3K de-facto security credentials riding the coat-tails of QF!...and it was attached to an A4 3K document...so this makes my post relevant to this section :) - even if Qantas deny any operational links

So my observations/comments good and bad.....

At HKG T2, check-in for HKG-SIN is actually 2 hours before flight, yet the document I was emailed as my "e-ticket" type document says check-in opens 3 hours before...grrrrrrr...considering how they screw customers to the letter of their own T&C, that's a Jetstar FAIL! But at least they did open exactly 2 hours before..on the dot! Rather funny, I received a reminder of my 3K flight by email....AFTER I checked in, stating check-in opens 2 hours before flight!

HKG - SIN - MEL on 1 itinerary....couldn't check my bags through from SIN to MEL, couldn't generate SIN-MEL BP...minor FAIL....as luckily no argument from the transfer staff at SIN to interline the bag and produce BP :)

On a previous transfer BNE - SIN (QF) SIN-HKT (3K) on separate tickets I fought tooth and nail with the transfer staff to get onto the last 3K flight of the day (SIN-HKT) that was almost boarding at the time, via transfer rather than clear IMMI etc (I missed 2 3K SIN-HKT flights due to QF 4.5 hrs late!). They really didn't want to do it, but in the end, the QF manager and 3K manager gave in and got me on the flight with my bags transferred! What really annoyed me, I knew that I would miss that days flight SIN-HKT and would have to spend 8-9hrs in Changi and catch the next days 1st flight....but on de planing @ gate in SIN (QF BNE-SIN), the 3K rep told me no problem, even on separate tickets we will get you on the flight with your bags transferred, then to be dashed at transfer by 2 3K staff clearly not wanting to bother try help. Finally after it was done by the 2 managers, I was advised next time book on 1 ticket. Great, next time I will....contacted QF to ask how (can't do it on QF or 3K website)...after several phone calls back and forward, told it couldn't be done...separate tickets only!! WTF??? So 3K can interline and transfer outside of their policy...it's something I would not expect to happen to me (or many others) again however!

3K are supposed to be strict on hand-carry items, but I've seen people hiding their hand carry away from the check-in staff during check-in, passengers paying for oversized hand luggage as check-in at the direction of check-in staff, whilst the same passenger has a huge clearly full almost bulging backpack on his back. Later at the boarding gate, around 15 bags cleared at check-in as hand carry, however the gate staff said its gotta go in the hold....rather large solid plastic type wheely cases that I couldn't imagine would even fit in an overhead on an A320! I remember my last trip on the same route my back-pack was weighed at check-in! Maybe the checkin staffing service provider has changed, and supplies even LESS service to their LCC customer (3K)? :D

Pleasingly, the satellite terminal was used for 3K departure this flight....but you still have to catch a bus to the terminal LOL

3K FA are mostly good natured, fun and seem to be helpful generally (and JQi FA also to be fair), but I get the feeling that in an emergency, they are not going to be my best help......that may be unfair to say of them because I haven't been in an emergency with them (or any airline for that matter), but after asking to substitute a meal gets multiple confused looks between staff then a no....but 20 minutes later alternative options ARE given, long pauses whilst reading their lines out of the handbook (don't they do that every flight like rote??).....doesn't inspire confidence in their previous emergency training.

The 3K menus are getting much smaller! I guess they are not selling as much variety as they want. When you are hungry and a snack will do, you can choose from Nissin noodles, or Pringle's....everything else (other than the 5 hot meals of which they only had 3 choices available, or the 1 sandwich and 1 wrap on the menu, but not available!) is sweets (chocolate etc). It was the most delicious Pringle's I've had in a long time, my Kiwi/Aussie seatmate gave in to the Pringle's too :) At least the price seemed reasonable...when you are rather hungry!

My last JQi flight SIN-MEL, I didn't note 1 Aussie sounding, or indeed any FA other than Asian. On 3K I expect that, but JQi? I have nothing against the Asian staff, as I've always had pleasant service on all my 3K/JQi flights....I was just surprised. And of no surprise, from the flight deck on JQi, Aussie 100% (also some Aussie's on 3K) LOL

Heres a good one! My points/SC posted 1 day after both my 3K and JQi flight, indeed my overnight JQi flight (arrival this morning) posted realistically same day!!! WOW! How good is that!

Oh dear, this has turned more into a mini rant than positive and negative! Ill keep flying 3K/JQi when its the best or only option, but I wish I'd not have to learn some of their idiosyncrasies by experience!

Bit off my own topic, in SIN Watsons airside, Aussie cust before me was only asked destination, not for BP on making purchase. Same with me...no BP required. The poor Asian bloke behind me was asked for his BP!!! And the reason I know this, is I heard him being asked, and he asked why he had to give it, when the 2 previous customers did not.....I didn't hang round to hear the answer LOL

And a pack of Extra chewing gum (The rectangle flat one) or a single foil pack of Panadol extra WILL set off the metal detector in SIN and MEL, yet my large metal watch will not!!! Weird.....

Oh, and no more shoe removal in Manila screening? One can only hope a permanent change!

Re: 3K (Jetstar Asia) HKG-SIN and JQi observations / experiences...plus a couple of o

Thanks for the info - now freaking about my tickets!!

Booked a BNE to SIN on a classic pre end of dec for SC, plans changed and we are now going to KL - managed to get my whole party (5 others) on BNE to KUL QFF to 3K tickets. To cancel and reissue mine was stupid so I booked to KUL separate ticket....I am HLO as I am going to dump my gear with my 3 year olds who is on the flow through QFF/3K ticket. I just hope OLCI works for me and I don't have to deal with the transfer desk as no way do I want to go through and back in for it (there is only 1hr 45mins) and thats if QFF is on time...........It will not be great sending my 3 year old off with his grandparents who have never travelled internationally without me if something screws up!!!

Re: 3K (Jetstar Asia) HKG-SIN and JQi observations / experiences...plus a couple of o

Won't be any issues picking up a boarding pass at the transfer desk. Make sure you line up at 3K not JQ counter as they are separate and the last few times I've been there the JQ line was massive.

The interline issue with QF/3K is a major problem. Qantas are promoting that they can offer all these connections across Asia, however it's pointless if we can't connect with ease. People will just book with SQ, MH, TG etc as it's all seamless. Oh wait... They already do

Re: 3K (Jetstar Asia) HKG-SIN and JQi observations / experiences...plus a couple of o

As N860CR says there is both a JQi and 3K section in Transfer C. Yesterday, the barriers for excess passengers were in front of 3K, there were no barriers infront of JQi, but of course the barriers are portable! Lucky yesterday I was a straight walk up to JQi transfer desk and be served :) I think as N860CR says you are going to have to deal with someone, at the very least the transfer desk. I understand international airlines (all of them) have to validate you have a valid visa to travel to your destination country, otherwise they bear the costs associated if you travel and are refused entry because they didn't check you were eligible.

Re: 3K (Jetstar Asia) HKG-SIN and JQi observations / experiences...plus a couple of o

Check-in in HKG has been 2 hours before the flight since a long time ago. Not sure why the e-ticket would say 3 hours, but the website lists intra-Asia flights as 2 hours. However, you can also do in-town check-in at the train stations in Hong Kong and Kowloon, in which case, it's any time on the day of the flight (during opening hours). This is a good option especially if you want to maximise lounge time - something that might be worth trying for once the new lounge open. While the check-in is at T2, after clearing security, you board a train that takes you to the basement of T1, hence the ability to access the QF lounge for those with the required status. Also note that, if you have done in-town check-in, you can simply clear security in T1 rather than going to T2 and then catching the train back. They don't call 3K flights, however, and it's a bit of a walk back to the basement to catch the bus to the plane - 3K parks their planes on the tarmac and you'll have to take the stairs. The menu changed last year, and choices have definitely shrank. But now that instead of being given a meal, you now get a voucher which doesn't even cover for the cost of the meal. However, it is just about right for a cup noodle and a non-alcoholic breverage, which makes a reasonable snack - and you kind of know what it's going to taste like in advance.

3K has In-Town Check-in now? When I flew them 2 years ago they didn't participate in the service.

To the OP: if you travelled 3K/JQ HKG-SIN-MEL, I hope it was dirt cheap considering QF fares direct can be had for $4500 HKD!

Re: 3K (Jetstar Asia) HKG-SIN and JQi observations / experiences...plus a couple of o

The best part of 3K flying hkg - sin is that cx matches their starter plus fares in v class :)

Plus doing a OW to OW connection through SIN is far, far easier have 2 bookings this year for CX to BA to take advantage of BA premium fares

They've had it for a while now, although it is indeed a new addition in recent years.

V Class earns to QFF as well. How much are you getting V fares for yohy? I know from another tip on this forum that BA SIN-SYD return PE is only A$1,100. I also laughed when I looked at SIN-MEL fares and the BA First Class fare was cheaper than the Business Class available on the direct QF codeshare to MEL on the A330.

V class only accruals points at 0.5 though, but 3K with the plus bundle gets you the full 100% plus status bonus - i.e. 2400 extra points for the 3.5 hour flight for a WP. You also get a squiggle with the 3K flight, although that's not a worry for most of us.

and the BA SIN-SYD reuturn in Y+ can be roughly $1100 SGD when on sale - less than $1000 AUD! And of course, it's the 77W with the new seats.

I have to confess I'm more SC obsessed than points obsessed.

Actually my route was MNL-HKG-SIN-MEL-SYD :D but forget the MNL-HKG bit....so HKG-SIN-MEL-SYD...

As much as I love the A380 (but not the A330 particularly (HKG-MEL/HKG-BNE)).....

Direct : HKG-SYD = $5260 HKD (but don't forget to add taxes of $1236 HKD) so approx $936 AUD earning 9162 pts and 30 SC and in uncomfortable economy (9hrs), but nice A380 (usually) or ratty B747 (less usually)
or
Indirect :D HKG-SIN-MEL-SYD = $8597 HKD + $129 AUD (say $1239 AUD + $129 AUD) = $1368 AUD earning 13575 pts and 170 SC....in Economy (3.5hrs A320)...Business (7.5hrs A330 in "Bus" acceptable).....Economy (1hr B767 yay!) ....plus an all day free feed LOL

Indirect wins for me! Its not always abut the $$, but the SC earn vs comfort then cost :D

Note I do see HKG-MEL (A330 boooo) on sale for $4740 HKD + $1165 HKD approx $851 AUD + $120 AUD (MEL-SYD) = $971 AUD earning 10192 pts and 40SC...but still indirect wins for me! Or even HKG-BNE-MEL (A330 boooo) for $4290 HKD + $1296 HKD approx $805 AUD + $120 AUD (MEL-SYD)= $925 AUD earning 11348 pts and 50 SC

Still, CX only earns 20SC vs 40SC in my example as I booked JQi Business and therefore 3K MAX rate earn. Also seat 1A on the newer config 3K A320 with the huuuuge legroom and 1st of the plane (granted the aircraft config is pure luck)

who said anything about SCs? ;) V-class earns 1 club mile per mile in MPC

picked up V-class for 2400HKD all-in in April, got 2 of the 1100AUD BA PE fares also - these are upgradeable with Asia Miles also

Timely thread - am doing DRW-SIN-HKG in just under two weeks with JQi & 3K, followed by the reverse. Terminal wise (for the return) are lounges physically accessible when flying 3K/JQi or are they in different terminals to where 3K/JQi depart from?

There's really only one terminal in HKG, albeit a very big one. "T2", where the 3K check in is, consists of a check in area and immigration upstairs and a bus terminal underneath. Checking in here, you pass through immigration and take the APM/train to T1 where the gates and the lounges are. Boarding will be via a bus as 3K uses the 5xx remote gates at HKG.

Alternatively, you could use the in-town check in at Hong Kong or Kowloon Airport Express stations. They will check your baggage and issue boarding passes there. When you arrive at the airport, go to T1 and straight to the lounge without having to go through T2 at all.

There's no train from T2 checkin to T1 just a long walk (you might be thinking of the APM out to the pier?). QF Lounge access is right after immigration near Gate 16.

There is a train/APM once you clear security and immigration from T2 to T1. However, you must take the long walk if you're land-side.

The current QF lounge is located at gate 15. Go to the gate and you'll see the escalators going down to the dungeon... I mean lounge. In the near future, the new QF lounge (i.e. former F lounge) will open. This is located on level 7. If you're going through T1, take a hard right as soon as you're out of immigration. If you're coming over from T2, enjoy the long trek up from the APM.

Being DRW based I am sure your award that JQ and 3K don't always have open lounges at the time their flights depart, this can be an issue prior to 1430 in Singapore, while after 0800 not so much in HKG.
