I looked at two rtn flights SYD-SIN - will cost 112K in points. But $679 in fees! Forget it. That's one ticket (or less on Scoot). If you could move a slider to cover the fees with points like VA I'd consider.

Not as good as the 50% earlier this year and fuel surcharges still ridiculous.

SYD-SIN return should only be 84,000 QFF points but agreed the surcharges are high enough that you could actually book a revenue Qantas airfare for those surcharges. At which point you're then using 84,000 points for a $600-$700 airfare so poor value.

Yep. For me, I'd only use this deal for domestic redemptions. The charges on them are more reasonable and I fly dom enough that using pts takes a solid bit of pressure off the wallet.

It must not have taken the 25% off for some reason.

Does any other airline on the planet charge higher surcharges than QF on frequent flyer seat redemptions?

I can't seem to find one...

Could I please ask a possibly stupid question? I'm trying to book a MEL>BNE flight with Jetstar, coming up as 7,200 points +$38 which is fine as it's Melbourne Cup week and all flights are exxy. Can I book in a 'family members' name? When I go through the booking, it shows my name as the passenger, and I'm not sure where or when (or if) I can change this? I have tried phoning/Facebooking but they are away with the fairies today...

Yes you can book the ticket in someone else's name, can't remember exactly where in the process it is though.

That's a shame... I need to confirm I understand before proceeding and I really don't understand... can't find any info at all :( Would really like this flight though, just not for me...

4CFAA8A7-E129-4A42-8D35-304012B296AA.jpeg Well ..... mess

Fortuitously, I got around 6-8 flights to book up and other than one was planning on using points.

For example

Adel Melb
So 6000 points and $39 or $135 red e deal
Or 8000 points and $22.24
Or 10800 points and $0

Canberra Adel
9000 points and $60 or $306 red e deal
12000 points and $35.78
16500 points and zero

In the booking process, it asks on the passenger page the name AND the relationship of you to the person for whom you are making the booking
The dropdown. List in the images attached

Makes me wonder if you can have a de facto, domestic partner and husband and wife at the same time !

Does this happen AFTER you have confirmed the Points & Pay? Because my booking is showing in my name, and it's asking me to confirm the points etc. This is Jetstar btw if that makes a difference...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If booking via the qantas website ....which is the only place where classic rewards can be booked

It’s after the points plus pay on the passenger page.

It automatically defaults to your details so you need manually change them

And I note you done it already !
Thanks everyone, booked successfully :)

Emirates, British Airways, Lufthansa, Virgin Atlantic, to name a few... but yes, Qantas' charges are way too high as well.

It is arguable who actually has the highest charges. But those listed and Qantas by levying such high charges are treating their FF members with absolute contempt.

I received a survey from Qantas regarding their frequent flyer program and how easy it is to book rewards.

I gave them very poor ratings but hopefully some decent feedback they take on board regarding ridiculously high surcharges where the surcharges on an economy award can be as high as the revenue airfare. Agreed for my details to be passed on but somehow think they'll just ignore.
