Addendum: I should have posted the usual requisite - members must have at least 100 posts to be eligible. Apologies for any inconvenience.

Up for grabs are 2 tickets to the 2019 Canterbury Bulldogs Melbourne Cup Race Day Function.

Date: Tuesday 5 November 2019 from 12 noon at Waterview in Olympic Park, Homebush Sydney.

This is an unwanted Corporate Sponsorship event that Mr Clipped and I cannot attend this year, due to work committments. The function is hosted for high tier sponsors and is a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend the afternoon. You will be treated to a (hosted) three course luncheon with fine wines and ales, entertainment - as well as plenty of rugby league conversation, with many players and the Coach (Dean Pay) present to mingle. The Bulldogs had a poor start to the year, but romped home to an impressive tally of wins, so we are all pretty proud of the work our boys did. There is much to celebrate, even though we missed the finals.

There will be full betting facilities for those so inclined - it is Melbourne Cup after all. ;) There is also a Best Dressed Award and some lucky door prizes.

Dress code is as you would imagine - race day attire and all the trimmings (that means hats, ladies!)

If an AFF member wishes to take their partner (or perhaps 2 members can meet up for the afternoon) - please pm me and I will get your details and contact information. This package is strictly for (2) guests only. Free parking is available at Waterview.

@cjd600, you'd be surprised how disciplined and well-behaved our corporate events are. Many of the players are quietly spoken, happily married with young kids, or just shy. Mr Clipped and I have sponsored the Dogs since 2012 - I've known the boys personally for many years and they are just a great bunch of young men.

Rogue players exist in every single NRL team without exception. But the media loves to tag us as the black sheep. And the Bulldogs are getting quite tired of that label, when it's steeped in hypocrisy.

What an opportunity for someone to enjoy! If I had the glad rags, I would put my hand up for my Doggies mad nephew (who also has Downs Syndrome)

Hope someone gets to enjoy the event.

Thanks @Denali - yes it is a fabulous day out. Last year, our daughters boyfriend won the Best Dressed competition and a $500 Ladbrokes voucher. poor thing doesn't gamble though. So Mr Clipped very generously offered to take it off his hands......

We're attending the Bulldogs Awards and Presentation Night this evening at the same venue. I will post some photos here to show the glitz and glamour.

(Me excluded - there isn't enough sequins on the planet to save old age unfortunately) Sigh.

My apologies for a flippant remark, if it has offended.
Looks like it'll be a great day.

I am pondering throwing my hat in the ring if no die-hard Bulldogs fans step forward. The eldest junior Swan has been a Bulldogs fan since he was a toddler but can't make it (he is in South America until December). I have been a Bulldogs fan since North Sydney Bears were dumped from the NRL (unfortunately I have form here - I was originally a Newtown Jets fan before moving onto the Bears when they left 'for a year'.). My youngest Swan is also a Bulldog fan but not dyed in the wool. I will have to see if he is interested.

Clipwing would poor behaviour of guest be reflected on you, or is it anonymous?
@Flying_man - Guests who receive our tickets for the Race Day function will be considered representatives of the business that Mr Clipped and I own and as such - will be expected to conduct themselves with appropriate behaviour befitting a formal event. They will be logged upon arrival as our guests.

Hope this clarifies things. I'll be making a decision over the weekend. The uptake has not been popular, it's only a 2 horse race, so to speak.

That is very interesting. I ask question because recently I unable to attend special dinner function for my Chinese Society. I gift tickets to friends of my son and it seem they drink too much beer and cause some BIG PROBLEM at dinner function and now I am held responsible!? Even the society secretary HIMSELF call me on telephone to remonstrate me for boys BAD BEHAVIOUR! I say I am not responsible and not even there at function but I still get BLAME!

I think that's fair. Your society has standards of behaviour and the guests you gave tickets to didn't adhere to those standards. Unless you're 100% sure people will behave appropriately then it would be better to either surrender the tickets or just write off the cost.

@clipped_wings is making a very generous offer of tickets that would be both financially valuable and valuable to their company's reputation. I have no interest in the event and haven't put my name forward. But, if it was of interest to me, I would have and if chosen to attend, my behaviour would be exemplary.

It is a privilege to receive these offers from fellow AFF members and misbehaving will lead to them no longer being offered. It is the same as if you're guested into a lounge. Your behaviour must at all times be exemplary.

The seats have been filled, thank you to those members who expressed interest. If there are any Bulldogs fans out there - please stay in touch as we are more than happy to include you in our 2020 allocation for games etc.

Some photos of the Presentation and Awards evening. I forgot to photograph the main course, but it was a choice of Lamb Fillet or Chicken. Both were equally delicious. The entree was Prawns or Eye Fillet - there were spare seats at our table, so six of us got seconds!

Dessert was a choice of mango + raspberry sorbet on popping candy cake - or a rich, decadent chocolate mousse eclair. I had both :)

Waterview at night. It is quite a lovely venue, with very attentive staff.

We had probably the largest group of debuntants in the NRL. Which made our late charge to the finals pretty impressive, when you think about it.

Last but not least - Mr Clipped and I all dolled up and ready to go. We look tired, because we were. It was 5pm and after our bedtime. What a pair of old ducks.

@Denali - did you know the Bulldogs have a young man with Down's Syndrome as their official team member? He attends every single game, runs out on the field with them - and leads the chorus in the dressing room when they win a game. You should see the amazing respect they pay him when the cameras aren't rolling. It brings tears to my eyes.

I would be honoured to send your nephew some stickers and a signed hat :)
